Baptism Celebrated. Local Social News From Hordville

Woman's club backs March of Dimes drives

The Polk Womans Club met at Mrs Verland Widga's home on January 5 with ten members. Plans were set to sponsor the March of Dimes in late January and to support Heart Cancer and Red Cross drives. Eleanor Stromberg Ruth Aker Kathy Brazda and Janice Widga were elected as group chairmen. Mrs Paul Strand led a Traffic Rules program and quiz. Lunch was served by Janice Widga and Fern Myers.

Narcotics film shown at Trinity Lutheran meeting

Members of the Trinity Lutheran LCW opened the year with a Jan. 6 meeting. Fern Myers presided over old business then handed control to new officers Florence Hoffman president Edna Neeman vice president Bertha Brazda secretary and Donna Werner treasurer. Donna Werner and Edna Neeman participated in the event.

Stromsburg Fire Destroys Quonset and Equip at Local Plant

A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a 40 by 125 foot Quonset building and heavy equipment for Overland Sand Gravel and Ready-Mixed Concrete in Stromsburg. Delano Ahlquist, a milkman, found the blaze around 4 a.m. and firefighters could not contain it. Losses included two ready mix concrete trucks, one truck, a tractor and loader, a bulldozer, two pickups, two panel trucks, tires and shop tools. Manager Vayden Anderson could not estimate damages at press time.

Speech class organized at off campus site

Mrs Betty J Majors Pell county superintendent announces an off campus class Speech 151 in speech development and correction. The three hour college credit course is to be conducted by the University of Nebraska. Interested persons may contact Mrs Majors Osceola at 7475421.
