Free Mission Church announces upcoming classes and services

Church news notes Paul E Carlson as pastor with Sunday School at 10 and morning worship at 11. The Lord's Supper will be observed after the morning service. Evening service at 7 30. A new Adult Bible Class with Rudolph Nyberg will begin next Sunday to boost attendance. Union prayer services planned next week.

Farmer Cured of Erysipelas Near Polk

John Light, a farmer south west of Polk, fell seriously ill with erysipelas last Friday. His eyes swelled shut Saturday before W. C. Steel, local light and water commissioner, administered a cure that proved beneficial. Light is now recovering.

Stromsburg News Briefs Highlight Visits and Local Sports

Mr and Mrs L. Rudeen and daughters visited Sumner and relatives while Jeannette stayed with Mrs Nuquist. Con Trued, after Omaha, continued to Moline to resume Augustana College studies. Marvin Mersey’s first string beat Benedict in Stromsburg. second team also won. Dr Hazel Stanton visited Stromsburg for a month. Prof Oscar Olson visited Banta home after North Park College trip. Local church groups and society events were held with hosting and hosting duties noted.

ALL TRIPLE A SUSPENDED IN COUNTY AFTER SUPREME COURT DECISION

Following a supreme court ruling on Monday all work with the AAA in Polk County was halted. An executive order from Washington stopped activities per County Agent Kelly. County employees including corn hog and wheat committee members and four clerks lost their jobs as plans for 1936-37 Corn-Hog Contracts were halted amid speculation on next steps.

Osceola notes report the rural children's Christmas Seals sale totaling 78.92 dollars, with half returned to the county for welfare work. Jay Hastings filed Saturday on the non political ballot for the office of County Judge. This marks the second filing for the position, the other candidate being Geo Carson.

State motor vehicle taxes unchanged for 1936

The 1936 license fee matches 1935 and motor vehicles will be taxed separately under a new state law. Personal vehicle tax must be paid before issuing a 1936 license. delinquent after February 1. A $1 extra applies if no previous year certificate is shown. Mailing license and plates costs 10 cents postage. LeRoy M. Smith, Polk County Treasurer. Polk County Teachers Gather for January Meeting at Osceola High

Polk County teachers meet Saturday January 11 at Osceola High School starting 9 AM. The program features art demonstrations, piano duet, and talks on Character Education by Mrs Edna H Jackson with pupil demonstrations from local districts. Exhibits include Rural School Library Books and Posters for review at the County Superintendent's office.

Violet Hemingson of Kla math Falls Ore visits Stromsburg this week. The film Small Town Girl based on a Ben Ames Williams story illustrated by Jas Montgomery Flagg runs daily in the Omaha World Herald. Julia Ann and Lorna Mackaughters of Martin Smith had their tonsils removed at Central City last week and recover at their grandparents Adam Deuker’s home.
