As of December 6 1945 the U S Coast Guard had released 65000 personnel. The Navy discharged more men in less than three months after Japan's surrender than in the ten months after the 1918 Armistice. By January space will be freed to bring home all but cleanup and garrison forces, with India by April 1 and the Pacific by early summer. West Coast ports will see about 376 000 soldiers returned in December versus 234 000 in November.
