Students Return to Lincoln for New Term

The University students will return to Lincoln Sunday to resume work. Various local residents hosted guests over New Year’s, including trips to York and Hastings, with multiple family gatherings and community notices. The flu remains a concern, Ellen Jane Myers began teaching near Clarks, and a portable Roller Skating Rink is set to open in Shelby on Jan 5 with ads urging readers to watch Progress promotions.

Baptist Church Notes and New Year Greetings

The Baptist church lists J L Hedbloom as pastor and Ellen Larson as superintendent with Sunday School at 10:45 and 11:00 morning worship. Evening service 7:30, Junior and BYPU at 7:15, prayer Tuesday 8 pm, choir Thursday 8 pm. James T Sealey Weds Mrs Warnock in Cedar Falls

James T. Sealey married Mrs Josephine Warnock at Cedar Falls Presbyterian manse on Monday noon December 24. Rev Bruce Giffen officiated. They will reside in Waterloo Iowa for the present. The Progress extends congratulations to Jo and his bride on the New Year card.

Public Sale Planned by Chas V Lindahl in Stromsburg

Chas V Lindahl announces a public sale on Wednesday January 16 in Stromsburg along with notices of four upcoming sales from the Progress office. Wallace Scott wife Nell and the McGuffins marked New Year’s on Grand Island. Pork Women’s Club hosted a Christmas party at Mrs A W Shafer’s home with attendees dressed as students and a Santa visit. A pot luck lunch followed.

Recital Participants Attend Home Event in Central City

XM and Mrs. Wilbur Whitacre along with Naomi and Vivian Alfred Lillian Brown and Naomi Lindahl performed in a recital at the home of Louise Thompson in Central City Tuesday noon. The Rising City banks, the Rising City branch of the Farmers State bank, merged Wednesday per Examiner Merle Foster. The new consolidated bank lists deposits of 768000 with earnings and surplus of 10000.

Appeal Filed Over Breach of Promise Verdict

In York Nebraska on January 2 an appeal was filed to the supreme court arguing the jury verdict awarding Miss Sophia feed 6800 dollars against Simeon Stark for breach of promise. The court reduced the amount to 6600 and posted bond of 18000 as preparatory measure for the appeal. Baptist church members and friends marked J. L. Hedibim’s fortieth wedding anniversary with a 76 guest dinner and tributes.
