Fire damages York department store in blaze Tuesday night

A blaze of unknown origin swept through York triggering extensive damage to stock fixtures and the building of the I'. UC. Middle brook department store on Tuesday night. Firefighters arrived and quenched the flames as at least one residence near the scene reported fire damage and odor of smoke.

Hog and Cattle Prices Hit Steady Opening Week

Union Stock Yards reports a fair opening week with 7 560 cattle. Hogs rise to 10 15c higher, lambs steady to 14 59, feeders stronger with lambs to 14 60, aged sheep steady. Top steer price 16 25, cow stockers and feeders firm, strong demand for light and handy weight cattle.

Liberal Run of Hogs Higher Prices Rise Demand

About 17 000 fresh hogs arrived Monday and met broad demand from local packers and shippers. Prices rose 10 to 15 cents from Saturday with most hogs selling at 8.15 to 8.75 dollars per hundredweight and best butcher weights reaching 8.60.

Strong Market For Lambs As Receipts Hit 12 000

Lambs showed active demand with prices $14.50 to $15.00 for fat lambs and two buyers seeking feeders at $13.50 to $14.60. Aged ewes sold steady with fat ewes at $7.00 to $7.75. overall receipts numbered 12 000 head. Fat westerns ranged $14.25 to $15.00 with natives $14.25 to $14.75 and spring lambs $12.00 to $13.50. Feeder lambs priced $11.50 to $14.60. Ewes graded $5.50 to $7.20.
