Extension Veterinarian Dr. W. Alford warns farmers on vitamin A needs in rations for young stock and breeding cattle. Green forage and alfalfa provide A, ensilage also helps, and calcu mated hay and calcium are stressed for winter reserves. Arthur Nelson 26, of the Gresham area, died Sunday at York hospital from a fractured skull after a gravel truck collided with the cab as he and his father were returning from York In. The elder Nelson sustained minor injuries and the younger man left behind a wife and two children. Nelson was described as an energetic farmer held in high regard by neighbors and friends who mourn his loss.
Mrs. Ruth Green announces the engagement of her daughter Arlene to Vern Eklund of York. No wedding date has been set.
Mr and Mrs Elwin Olson spend holidays with relatives in Denver. Six o clock dinner Monday at Harlan Tolines included Joel Toline Vance Ed a Brayton Marian Ida Carlson and others. Evelyn Oquist visited her parents F E Oquist Sunday. New Year Eve choir concert with refreshments. Cordal Johnson of Lincoln stayed with her mother Lena Johnson. Johnson Christmas Get Together at Martin Lundstrom home. Adolph Forss and Donald visited John Johnson Sunday. Epiphany worship service Jan 6 at 8 pm. Arthur Ekstrom hosted guests including Lester Speirs and Floyd Speirs. Donald Anderson of Omaha visited mother Ellen Anderson. Fredrickson family reunion and Christmas party at Stromsburg. Marcia Stohl and Rosalie Ekstrom, Luther College students, home for holidays. Rev Franzen and family spent Christmas with relatives in Ceresco. Ellen Anderson hosted supper Friday with Donald Anderson Oma ha and Harold Cramer Harold Green families of Polk.
Mr and Mrs Wesley Michener hosted Christmas dinner with Carl Peterson and family Lester Michener and family C O Peterson Jr and Jim Olson of Cheyenne Wyoming. Willard Anderson and Amanda Elfors attended, gifts exchanged at the Anderson home. Gust Johnson hosted all children and grandchildren on Christmas Eve with gifts later. Herbert Flodman hosted Christmas Day guests including Adelsons Hult and Swartz families. Olof Norman Bloom family attended Christmas Eve with Albert Bloom and Ronie. Beda Stromberg spent Christmas Eve with Lloyd Stromberg at Polk. Emma M Peterson and Clara joined Christmas Day with Baker family. Lloyd, Harold Beckman Jr and others enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner at Beckman home with gifts. Cliff Jenkins left Columbus for Ovid Michigan to spend the holiday with Delmar Baker’s family.
Christmas gatherings featured Mrs Linnie Shafer hosting Shannon Shafer Florence Turpin from Omaha and other relatives including York, Arborville, Bancroft, Lincoln, and Bancroft residents. Entrees at Hillis Sterner and Orendorff households included extended families from Bancroft, Lincoln, and surrounding areas. Christmas Eve visitors to M O Johnson family included Vern Williams and Patty.
George Reeb died Friday at noon at his daughter’s home. He was 91 and survived by five children including Harold Reeb and Mrs Victor Kerker of Portland Oregon. Also survived by Mrs Will Garling Mrs L Blase and Henry Reeb. Obituary to follow next week.

Swede Plain services list Morning Worship at 10 and Church School at 11. Arborville Congregation Rev. Charle Eaton presides with Sunday School at 11:30 and Divine Worship at 20:00 with Sermon Revolution Redounding and Sermonette Beginning Again led by Ployd Merchant and Kenneth Bedlent with chorister.
Nels Pearson presides at Sunday School 10 a.m. and Morning Worship at 11 a.m. Albert Sundberg with Doyle and Lavar Sandell were Sunday evening dinner guests at Henry Sandell's home.
Polk County couple Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Funkhouser celebrated their 65th anniversary with a candle light tea at their Shelby home on December 28 1947 open house from 2 to 5 p m. Friends from Columbus and David City attended. The Hope Circle Castle Memorial Church gave a bouquet and flowers. The couple married in Indianapolis December 31 1882 and moved to Nebraska 61 years ago. They helped found a hospital and were active in church and community affairs. They have two children Ettie and Alta and two grandchildren.
