Nebraska legislature debates highway funding and tax reform
The Nebraska Legislature weighs highway funding bills to raise the gas tax and vehicle fees as public hearings draw large crowds. The Revenue Committee also discusses reactivating 1949 revenue laws, while the Public Works Committee pursues a new highway oversight agency. The Johnson County land valuation dispute heads toward the Nebraska Supreme Court as the State Board of Equalization faces contempt charges. A new property tax proposal uses farm land values as a measuring stick, and a primary election reform bill removes party endorsements from primaries. LB 9 faces trouble over county salary limits.
