About 93 members attended the Polk County Legion posts convention at Lemuel R. Wilcox Post 160 in Polk. County Commander Arnold Neuhaus led the meeting with welcome from Duane Burney. Tony Pokorney of Shelby was elected County Commander for 1971 with Shelby hosting the 1972 convention.

Paul Stevens was re-elected president at the Farmers Co-op Grain Association annual meeting. Ed Dobberstein was chosen vice president Robert Willits secretary Dean Myers noted 1970 saw corn as the dominant commodity with three years of government sealed corn called in. Over 200 stockholders attended at Community Hall as officials praised the association’s business.

The Home Society met on Wednesday afternoon February 17 at Mae Johnson's home with 11 members and one visitor. President Ella Cramer led the business. Evelyn Shenk read a thank you from Nebraska Children's Home. Ruth Bragg donated in honor of mother Mabel Benjamin. Card games followed. Shenk and Bush won high and low. hostess gift went to Shenk. A pot luck lunch was served.
