Mr and Mrs H Brauer celebrate their golden wedding at home in Polk next Sunday February 23. Polk pioneers for over forty years, Brauer served as Mayor and on the School Board. Their four daughters Lillie Baack Rosella Jose Viola Wall and Verbena Wurtz will join the celebration.
Gladys Irene McCoy and John Albert Andrews wed Sunday February in Polk at 4 pm in a ceremony for about forty guests. Rev A C Bates officiated with music by Arthur Bates and Mrs Lloyd Kroger. The couple plans a ten day Gulf Coast trip before settling in Denver and Lowry Field.
Rebekahs Installation at Rainbow Rebekah Lodge on Feb 13 installed officers for the ensuing term. N. G. Hennis Seymour Act, Bethel King V G, Ada Dahlgren, Laura Merchant secretary and treasurer, Elizabeth Otte chaplain, T D Otte Inside Guardian, Mabel Dornburgh Warden, Laura Merchant conductor and musician Linnie Shafer RSVG I T Samuelson LSVG DDAP Laura Merchant and staff conducted the ceremony. Refreshments followed at Peterson Cafe.
The Polk County American Legion Convention and banquet will open in the High School Auditorium next Tuesday at 7 p.m. State Commander Marvel of Lincoln will address the gathering. Legion members are urged to buy tickets from their Post Officers.

Harm Shank a longtime Silver Creek area resident died February 9 at a Norfolk hospital after several months there Born near Silver Creek Nebraska February 18 1873 he lived in Polk county farm life and later ran a business in Silver Creek and Osceola He leaves wife Hazel and three children Boyd Hastings Neb Raymond Lansing Mich Naomi Los Angeles Calif one brother Frank Silver Creek Funeral services were held at Fleming Chapel Silver Creek and burial followed in the family plot at Silver Creek cemetery.
Miss Maud Johnson returns from Colorado after five months with relatives due to Ralph Erickson’s death. Mr and Mrs Victor J Wallin set to sail February 21 from New York to La Paz Bolivia after nine months in the US. Local visits include Mrs Emma M Peterson and many in Polk County.
About 30 neighbors gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Flodman’s Swede Home residence Monday evening to bid them farewell before their move to Stromsburg. The couple received a table lamp as a keepsake, and guests enjoyed a dainty lunch after a social evening.
The Polk County Soil Conservation District Supervisors elected Ray Brigham as Chairman Bruce Anderson as Vice-chairman George Bond as Secretary-treasurer. Other Supervisors are Gordon Fredrickson and Leo Kresha. The district aims to double erosion control efforts this year with contour planting on 2100 acres terraces 15 miles grassed waterways 60 acres. An irrigation push includes 13 systems to be installed or improved 600 acres leveled for irrigation and 6 miles of ditches to be built.
The Farm Credit Service crop loan program now operates from the Farmers Home Administration County Supervisor in Osceola Nebraska. The merger of Farm Security Administration and Emergency Crop and Feed Loan section creates a single county office handling crop loans and other supervised credit. A daughter named Connie Kay Emmons was born Sunday February 16 at Stromsburg Hospital to Mr and Mrs Clair Emmons. The Emmons live on the former Ball property in south Osceola. Local news also notes absences, travel, and visits including Mrs P C Wieseman to Kearney and Eustis for a funeral.
Polk High School defeats Stromsburg and Osceola to claim undisputed Polk County basketball title. Captain LeRoy Anderson receives first team trophy. Stromsburg’s Paul Lamoree earns second team honors. Final scores include Polk 32 Osceola 25 and Polk 50 Stromsburg in earlier rounds.
