Set-aside Programs To Aid Farmers

Richard Sealey chairman of the ASC Committee says the 1971 set aside program for feed grain wheat and cotton lets farmers concentrate on crops they grow best. Producers set aside acres then may plant remaining land to preferred crops except sugar cane and quota crops. The plan aims to boost efficiency and reduce costs and notes regional shifts toward corn in the Corn Belt soybeans in the Southeast and cotton where best suited.
