Polio Drive in Polk Nets $357.87 Despite Shortfall
Mrs. Neal McNaught reports Polk Woman's Club led a successful drive raising $357.87 for the Polk March of Dimes. Contributions came from American Legion $64.35, ten stores coin collection $41.50, school children $34.60, Fredrickson Implement Show $53.90, theatre donations $12.48, basketball free will $24.28, house to house canvass $93.66, and $33.10 from various organizations. Although short of the $500 quota, the total exceeds last year and thanks are extended to all helpers including Mrs. Rolland Dahlin and others.

John Gestrine and Gunnard Stohl flew from Lincoln at 6 a m to Florida to assist Ber ger Stohl, called there by his brother’s illness. They covered 1800 miles, arriving at 3 p m. Berger Stohl moved to Florida 26 years ago and owns 10 acres with 600 orange trees.

Polk Cubs Win County Championship in Narrow Final
The 1950 Polk County basketball tournament opened with a tight Osborne Osceola versus Polk seconds battle 34 to 30 as Brazee and Walgreen led Polk efforts. Polk clinched the county title with a 36 to 26 win over Stromsburg in the final after a slow first half. The event drew a record 1787 attendees across two days with crowds at both sessions.
