Grain Weighing Device To Be Made In Polk

An automatic grain measuring device will be manufactured in Polk after a year of testing. Don and Dwayne Miller, Ed Reckner, and Bob Merchant of E&R Welding Shop developed a sturdy portable steel unit that totals grain weight as it pours from an overhead bin spout. National Farm Organization to Meet in Polk

The National Farm Organization plans another Polk Community Hall meeting next Thursday February 22 at 8 00 PM. Harold Woodward from Missouri will speak after an area gathering in Wahoo. A lunch will be served after the session.

Village Board Grants Franchise Tuesday To Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Co Inc

Representatives of Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Co Inc of Hastings met with the village board in adjourned regular session and the board voted to grant a franchise to lay gas lines in Polk for 25 years. The firm seeks FPC approval to deliver natural gas before the next heating season. underground lines will be about 30 inches deep, with work in alleys where possible.

Philip Meline Buys Barber Shop in Grand Island

Philip Meline completed the purchase of an appointment barber shop in Grand Island this week and plans to take over immediately. The shop sits in the First National Bank building after the previous owner’s death. The Klip ’n Karl Shoppe in Polk will close until a buyer is found.

Former Polk Resident Bert Benjamin Dies in Caldwell

Mrs. Elmer Anderson announced that Bert Benjamin, formerly of Polk, died at his son’s home in Caldwell Idaho on February 5 at age 87. Burial took place in Whittier California on February 8.

Cubs Capture Third Conference Crown

Polk varsity boys beat Genoa 75 to 25 as Max Kroger posts 27 points and 20 rebounds. Alvin Kisler adds 18 and Calvin Crow 11, with reserves winning 27 to 18. The Cubs host Henderson next, then travel to Shelby for the district tournament starting February 20 versus Rising City.

Hordville Ceded No 2 In District Tourney

The Hordville basketball team starts district tourney play next Tuesday night at Marquette when they meet Palmer. Giltner and Hordville hold the 1 and 2 seeds in the district. Other teams entered include Nebr Christian Phillips Cairo and Marquette. The Marquette winner advances to the regional at Broken Bow.
