Polk March of Dimes Campaign Reaches Over 300

Polk area residents and organizations raised more than 300 for the March of Dimes led by Mrs. N E McNaught. The American Legion Post 160 led contributions, with a house to house drive raising 103.16 and other gifts from Basketball game Coin collectors at School II 40.00 Iron lung collectors 29.68 Show collection 9.85 Region Auxiliary 10.00 Country Womans Club 5.00 Polk Womans Club 5.00 Faithful Workers Club 5.00 Athletic Fund 0.50. Polk “milk-spillers” go 2-1 this week with Johnnie’s Ramblers beating Hank’s Five and Kroger’s Store topping Barber’s Service. Lloyd Kroger led scoring with 203, while Eldon “Newt” Johnson added 201 as Lavonne Adelson sparked Johnnie’s Ramblers with 182 and Roger Hanquist 141.

Wurtz Return From West Coast Vacation

Mr and Mrs Leo Wurtz and Danny concluded a three week west coast trip with a California visit. They panned real gold nuggets at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park and explored Ghost Town. An elderly prospector aided the attempt and joined a tour of a Boom Town replica and Silver Dollar Saloon.

Golden Wedding for Ernest and Julia Flodman At Swede Plain

Mr and Mrs Ernest Flodman celebrated their Golden Wedding with a Sunday service at Swede Plain Church and a reception at home for 120 relatives and friends. Festivities featured a church program with music by Virgil Flodman and others, a long guest list, and a cake display honoring eight children. Ben Peterson Chosen President at Farmers Co op Grains Board

At the monthly meeting last Saturday night the Board of Directors chose Ben Peterson as President for the ensuing year, continuing in the role from the past year. The American Legion Auxiliary met February 11 at the Legion Hall with Mrs. Frank Davis presiding and Mrs. Ivan Cramer as secretary. Faithful Workers Club Hosts Husbands Night In Polk

The Faithful Workers Club entertained their husbands at a February party at the Masonic Hall in Polk. Twenty five attendees enjoyed cards with Mrs. Jean Brinley and Lawrence Larson winning high scores for the ladies and men respectively. Conso lation prizes went to Mrs Lyle Dornburgh and Emory Cramer. The event was organized by Mrs Clifford Carlson and Mrs Ester Lackey with pot luck treats later served in honor of Mr and Mrs Seth Piper celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary.

Arborville Missionary and Aid Society meets for World Day observance

Arborville Missionary and Aid Society substituted Friday for the regular Wednesday meeting. The group observed the World Wide Day of Prayer using the United Council of Church Women service. Mrs Herold Bedient chaired, with Mrs Harvey Wochner assisting in candle lighting and Mrs John Wochner as accompanist. The business hour was led by Mrs Charles Burgess and a devotional lesson given. Funds raised support Navajo work. Sunshiners Project Club hosted by Mrs Helen Friesen on February 9 with singing by Ardell Otte and business by Francis Reading. Roll call cited a famous quotation. Helen Hoffman elected corresponding secretary, replacing Merna Skaden who withdrew. Inez Schrader and Martha Dietrick demonstrated the One Dish Meal. Friesen provided other menu items for the social hour. Prenuptial shower for Elaine Klingsporn hosted Sunday afternoon.

Polk Assigned to Silver Creek for District Tourney

Polk cagers are assigned to the District Class D tournament in Silver Creek for the last week of February, escaping the York meet.
