G Frazier left for Fullerton this week. A T Dawes of Osceola visited Polk Monday. H Lindquist was a Stromsburg visitor Monday. Garritson and Swanson are named in the local item.
Local items include the David City Male Quartette at the O K Theatre on February 16, Central City visits by Chas Rochlitz and Miss Esther Penson, and multiple social and business trips around Stromsburg Polk County and surrounding towns. Community notices mention theatre tickets, church events, sales, and upcoming phonograph promotions.
The Rural Culture Club met at Miss Bessie Crain's home on Saturday March 9 with eight members present. Topics on cooking and table setting were taught and cocoa was made. The group voted brown and yellow as colors and planned a future meeting with Miss Anna Dashgreen on March 2, 1912. Our big clearance sale on shoes and queensware extends one week.
Saturday afternoon the town buzzed with shoppers as 128 farmers’ rigs filled Main Street. The crowd supported home industries and merchants reported strong business aided by pleasant weather.
About 80 friends gathered at the Lind home last Thursday at noon to bid farewell before they move to Valley county. The Lind family, residents for eight years, received a fine kitchen cabinet as a gift presented by PB Larson, with remarks by John Norstrom in Swedish.
A W P Miller home hosted a reception for A P Miller and his bride married in York last Wednesday. A five course luncheon was served and guests enjoyed social games and music including duets by Dora and Frances Jones of Marquette. The couple plan to live on the P Olson farm six miles northeast of Polk after March 1.
