The American Legion Auxiliary met in Legion Hall on Monday evening February 9. Elaine Miller chaired and reports included Teen Dance, Junior Auxiliary, and a plan to purchase a clock for the Legion Hall with a $10 donation to the Warren Bedient Fund. The group also planned an Eastern dinner on February 19 and a March 20 birthday celebration for the Legion.

Wurtz Home in Colorado Damaged by Fire
The Leo Wurtz residence at 14335 Foothill Rd Golden Colorado suffered heavy damage after a fire started by fire bombs placed around the house. The Wurtz family and their daughter Gretchen were inside and could not save belongings. Three 15 year old boys were apprehended and confessed to starting the blaze. The family is staying in a motel.

The Polk Woman's Club reports completion of the March of Dimes Drive. The senior class led by Lawrence Swanson canvassed neighborhoods on Sunday January 25 to raise funds for king and queen candidates Jerry Lavelle and Tonya Anderson. A barbecued lunch was served, and 62 people received red measles vaccine on January 29 under State Health Department oversight with Dr. Loschen.

Warren Bedient Fund Grows For Kidney Operation
The Warren Bedient Fund, supporting a kidney operation and transplant for Warren Bedient in Denver, continues steady weekly increases. Polk Community Club sponsors a raffle with 1500 tickets at one dollar. MYF of United Methodist Church hosts a pancake feed February 21 in Polk Community Hall to add to the fund. Donations tallied at 2440.50 with numerous individuals contributing, and local businesses aiding ticket printing and processing.

Daniel E. Tyler, son of Mr and Mrs Wayne Tyler of Polk, is awarded the rank of Warrant Officer and wings as Army Aviator after 36 weeks of heli flight training at Ft Wolters Texas and Ft Rucker Alabama. He will depart for Vietnam March 3. Attending the graduation were Mr and Mrs Wayne Tyler and others from Arvada Colorado. Tyler is on leave before deployment.
