Mr and Mrs Walt Harbour celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house at the American Legion Club in Osceola on Sunday February 8 from 2 30 to 4 30 p m Friends and relatives invited no gifts requested
The Arborville Church fund reports a total of 738.50 with major contributions from Stromberg IGA donors and a 500 check from Epsilon Sigma Alpha Disaster Fund. Listed donors include Kenneth Olson Dave Moore Lloyd Stromberg and others. The Gram ma Zeta chapter in McCook Nebraska notes Mrs Bedient’s ESA ties.
Mrs. Mabel Stevens marked her 89th birthday with an all hour dinner at the Horace Stevens residence. Attending were Wayne Stevens and others from Ewing Rockford Cherry Valley Hastings Aurora Greeley and more, plus Pat Talish and Bob Lindberg joining for cake and ice cream. Wayne Stevens delivered a decorated cake.
Mrs Cora Lindburg 95 died Jan 22 in Central City hospital. Funeral Jan 26 in Polk with Rev Gene Wood officiating at Laclede cemetery. Born Cornelia Matson Nov 18 1874 near Monroe. Survived by son Floyd and daughter Grace. married Hedberg 1896 then Lindburg 1905. Burial followed at Laclede cemetery.
Mrs. Helen Bayer, 63, retired Polk postal clerk, dies after illness. Funeral held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Polk with burial in Polk Cemetery. Surviving include husband Lee Bayer and siblings. Polk Junior High student Julie Green injured after snow removal caused a pickup accident.
Mrs Charles Smith aged 85 died Tuesday at her Long Beach home California. She was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Henry Van Housen and sister of Mrs Leona Scheapler and sister in law of John Smith of Polk. The Sm iths lived in Hamilton County for years before moving west.
The Faithful Workers Club met at Gerry Kealther’s home on January 28 with 14 members. Mildred Norquest, president, led a business session approving donations to the Warren Bedient Fund and the March of Dimes. A February 16 club supper and party at a York cafe was scheduled.

Miss Deanne Meerkatz of Polk Nebraska has been notified of acceptance at the Grand Island School of Business for the Summer Term starting June 15. She will graduate this spring and study Accounting this June.
Mr and Mrs Carl Brown of Lincoln are parents to a baby girl born January 19 named Carlene Renee weighing 7 pounds 8% ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Harold Carlson. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Carlstrom announce a son Terry Allen born January 27 weighing 8 pounds.

Linda Ann Kisler of Polk was among 850 people granted degrees at the University of Nebraska Mid Year Commencement held January 31 in Pershing Municipal Auditorium. Kisler earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Teachers College. The 1970 ceremony was the largest Mid Year Commencement in the school’s history.
Hastings resident Leigh Ann Gustafson spent four days with her parents in the company of relatives and friends. Lincoln trips included Jane Fredrickson and Bobbie Hoppe visiting the Marvin Fredrickson home. Numerous local hosts welcomed guests from Alliance Central City Kearney Swanton and York with dinners suppers and birthday observances at several homes including the Glasser Coover and Sundberg households.
A county court in Columbus reports multiple traffic violations with fines and costs. Notable entries include speeding by several drivers in day and night time, Vascar usage, and one hunting without a permit with damages and costs. Other individuals from Osceola Omaha Lincoln and surrounding towns are named with fines ranging from 10 to 55 dollars plus 5 dollars in costs.

Mike Ferguson, Viet Nam veteran, returnee from Clarks, visiting Kearney State Teachers College.
Mr and Mrs Lester O Graves celebrate fifty years of marriage with an open house at the United Methodist Church Stromsburg on Sunday February fifteenth from two thirty to four thirty in the afternoon. Friends and relatives are invited and gifts are declined.
Two filings were recorded this past week for the upcoming primary. Rexford Peterson of Shelby a Democrat filed for County Commissioner District One, and Elmer B. Johnson of Osceola a Republican filed for County Assessor.
Mr Lennis Lind of Polk appointed to the Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District board to fill the vacancy created by the death of Rudolph Nyberg at Stromsburg.
Polk County sales of U S Savings Bonds and Savings Notes totaled 103188.00 in 1969 with December purchases of 5711.00 reaching 45.6 percent of the annual goal. Statewide 42189722.00 in sales achieved 84.3 percent of the quota. Payroll Savings Plan added over 15000 new or increased savers, reaching 103 percent of the state goal for new savers.

Visitors included Mr and Mrs Wilfred Stephens and Mrs Pearl Dyer of Exeter with the Easleys in Diller, and many others at various homes in Stromsburg Utica York Central City and Marquette. The Arborville Youth Group met at the hall for a monthly gathering and an all host lunch was served.
Mrs Ed Reckner visited the Walter Fisher home on Thursday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Donald Hudson and family joined Mrs Mae Felton for Sunday coffee. Mrs Emma Horstman and Mr and Mrs Oscar Sundburg dined with the Bruce Cowgills in Silver Creek Thursday. Lee Harless hosted Lyle Knerr Dick Harless and family and Grace Harless and Gary Harless Roni on Saturday. Mrs Larry Jones and her boys visited Friday morning.
