Polk Methodist Church hosted the Planning Meeting for the Osceola and Central City sub district pastors and lay leaders on January 30. Rev Richard E Carlyon presided. speakers included Rev Nye Bond on surveys and maps, Rev Leonard Fisher on youth programs, and Rev Max Christopher on adult work. Lay leader Lee Ferris urged planning for Laymen's Sunday on February 26. Women’s Society of Christian Service provided dinner.

Obituary of John August Johnson
John August Johnson born October 24 1878 in Karls crona Sweden was orphaned young and raised by his grandmother. He immigrated to the United States in 1893, married May Ice in 1902, had six children, moved to Polk in 1916, joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1929, and died January 24 1950 at age 71. Funeral services were held at his home and then at the Methodist Church conducted by Rev Walker.

Polk County Bonds Purchases Reported For 1949
Polk County bought 778 310 dollars in U S Savings Bonds during 1949, said Mr Nordlund chair of the Polk County Savings Bonds Committee. Treasury data show Nebraska state purchases about 106 million dollars for the year with 71 percent in series E bonds, up six points from last year. Bond payments totaled 54 780 000 dollars covering matured and redeemed bonds. Van Bush returned home by ambulance from Stromsburg hospital and will remain bedbound two more weeks. Edward D B Schnasse, son in law of Charles Lytle, graduated mid term class at University of Nebraska Pharmacy College on January 28, a former Osceola resident.

The County Basketball tournament will be held in Osceola at the school gymnasium on Wednesday and Thursday February 8 and 9. Shelby Stromsburg Polk and Osceola will enter both first and second teams with pairings drawn by coaches. First day features four games starting at 3 30 pm with Osceola vs Polk Seconds and later Stromsburg vs Shelby Seconds Polk vs Shelby First Teams and Osceola vs Stromsburg First Team. Thursday has finals at 7 pm and 8 30 pm with winners from the prior day's games. Officials are Ed Schnabel and Bob Ferris of Fremont L E Hanson as manager admission 60c and 30c.

Soil Conservation Annual Report Review
The district reports its fourth year of operation with strong local interest in conservation. Three hundred sixty-eight farmers sought district assistance, about 30 percent of county farms. Highlighted measures include contour farming, permanent seedings, dams, terracing, land leveling, waterways, irrigation wells and systems, laterals, and irrigation structures. The district also notes ownership of special equipment to aid cooperators.
Central Young Adult Fellowship Forms at Clarks Methodist
Mrs. James Lindburg led devotions at Clarks Methodist Church as the Young Adult Fellowship met on Sunday January 29. York Methodist Church joins, boosting member churches to 25.
