The Genos Orioles defeated the Polk Cubs 67-61 on the home court. Key moments included Ken Bills driving to the basket to pull within one late in the fourth and Koziol leading the Orioles with 21 points while Carnahan added 25. Cubs top scorers were Foote 15 Mundt 14 and Bills 12.
A series of family gatherings filled the weekend in Osceola area homes. The Widga family hosted a Sunday party at Lloyd Widga’s home with Verland Widga, Judy Perrella, and other relatives. Arthur Samuelson’s visit included Wil Shostrom at the Good Samaritan Home earlier, followed by lunch with Elmer Gleim. Ed Coover returned home from Central City hospital Saturday. Alvena Lind hosted a Lind Christmas supper with Rolland Bodine, Dean Donelson, and Wallace Lind families. Merlin Nyberg hosted Elvera Nyberg and Art Trennepond with Philipines visitors.
Charley Osterman was honored on his 80th birthday Tuesday evening at his Hordville home with a lunchtime gathering. Attending were Mr and Mrs Reuben Gustafson, Mr and Mrs Emil Wilshusen, Mr and Mrs Harry Jones, Mr and Mrs Roy Nelson, John Weburg, Mr and Mrs Carl Holtorf, Marx and Maynard Holtorf.
Mr and Mrs Calvin Crow of York announce the birth of their daughter Channa Jean born December 18 weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Calmer Johnson and Mr and Mrs Robert Stohl.
The Home Society met at Irene Widga's home on Wednesday December 16 with all members present. President Ella Cramer led the business meeting. Myrtle Bush and Evelyn Shenk won prizes during the social hour. A gift exchange took place and Sadie Clark received the hostess gift. A pot luck lunch followed.
The hospital report lists patients across Stromsburg Osceola Shelby and surrounding towns. Included are Mrs Milton Marak Mrs Edythe Larson Mrs Clarence Wagner and baby girl and many others with transfers and dismissals noted for the period.
Mr and Mrs Morris Lindquist of Central City and Mr and Mrs Virgil Bush were Monday supper guests of Mr and Mrs Neil McNaught for their annual Christmas party. Mr and Mrs Paul Strand left Tuesday to spend the holidays with their daughter and family Rev and Mrs Gary Breuning at Burnsville Minn
Santa Claus visited Polk last Saturday giving treats to children and handing out 400 free turkey drawing tickets. Turkey winners included Helga Widga, Mrs. Ed Erickson, Elmer Warnick, and many others. Christmas lighting contest winners were Alvin Smith first, Don Miller second, Kenneth Werner third.
Sunday December 20 relatives and friends gathered at the Roy Glasser Sr. home to celebrate the silver anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Glasser Jr. The couple received many gifts and cards as 55 guests enjoyed a lunch of sandwiches cake and ice cream from a decorated serving table.
Guests of Mrs. Hulda Sagehorn on Wednesday night to celebrate her 75th birthday included Mr. and Mrs. Don Schmidt of Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Krenke of Deshler, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Driewer of Oregon Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kohtz and Howard of Hastings, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kohtz of Hampton, and Mrs. Anna Kisler. Lunch featured angel food cake baked by Mrs. Harold Kohtz, sandwiches, cherry dessert and coffee.
Mervin Branting is admitted to Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln on Sunday. He is staying in room 408.
Capt Gary L Stromberg of Anchorage visited his parents and relatives for several days last week before returning to Elmendorf Air Force Base on Thursday. Thelma Hoffman and Chris Siffring of Rising City joined Ernie Lott’s family for Sunday supper. Neil and Walden McNaught hosted Lincoln guests Saturday night. Gary Green and family from Central City ate with Bessie Green Sunday. Rudolph Gustafson’s home hosted Leach of Ord Harsh of Lansing Mich Sandell of Lincoln for Sunday lunch. Ollie Johnson Ang and Robbie Alfred of Lincoln visited Rudolph Gustafson Monday oyster supper. Dale Todero of Boulder stayed overnight with grandparents Lindburg. he traveled Sunday to Allentown Pa to spend Christmas with Calvin Gertch in Columbus and Conrad Lindholm hosted Thursday afternoon visitors.
