Polk’s senior class hosts a Christmas tasting tea on Wednesday December 14 from 3 30 to 5 00 in the high school library. Tickets cost 1 00 and may be purchased at the door. Coffee will be served along with refreshments.
Polk High boys survived Silver Creek 54 53 and edged Hampton 67 63 to close the weekend with two victories. Reserve squads also won over Silver Creek 63 41 and Hampton 58 50 as Russ Koza logged fouls in a physical opener. The Polk girls powered past Silver Creek 67 38 led by Michel Sandell’s 29 points and 15 rebounds, boosting their record to 2 0 with Deb Bankson 13 and Lynelle Meerkatz 11 supporting.
Louise Wurtz aged 89 died Saturday December 10 at Osceola hospital. Services were held December 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk with burial in the church cemetery. Surviving family includes brother Charles Goldfish of Scotia sister Bertha Anderson of California stepson Leo Wurtz of Brighton Colorado and stepdaughter Mildred Norquest of Polk.
A ginger bread house raffle offers tickets at 50 cents each or three for one dollar. The winning ticket must be present for the December 17 drawing, with one house per person. Visit the library on December 17 during cartoons. clothing may be found in sizes. The library closes December 24 and 31.
Mr and Mrs Rodney Hanquist announce the birth of Brenda Lea on November 27 at York General Hospital weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Don Hanquist and Mr and Mrs Dean Samuelson, with great grandmother Mrs Laura Bolton, all of Polk. Brenda has an older brother named Brent.
The Immanuel Lutheran Bell Choir will perform on the Koln TV Morning Show Monday December 19 at about 7 10 a m. Director Rich Bicker notes the early trip to Lincoln for the appearance and urges viewers to tune in on Channel 10.
Santa will appear on Polk Main St Saturday around 2 45 p m after a 2 p m film showing in the Community Hall. Crescendos lead a Christmas carol sing at the Main St intersection after the event and prize drawings follow for gift certificates, house decorating, and various in store contests.
Mr and Mrs Morris Lindquist of Central City celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house Sunday December 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Central City. Hosts include Gerald and Karen Foulk of Grand Island Eldon Lindquist Falls City Leon and Lila Meerkatz Polk and nine grandchildren. Attendees are invited without further invitation. Gifts are not desired. The couple wed December 21 1937 in Littleton Colorado.
Cindy Lukas was a patient in York hospital from Friday until Sunday. Mrs Gerhard Dose entered Tincota General Hospital on Sunday. Clarence Rahrs entered Central City hospital on Friday. Mr Carl Carlstrom entered Clarkson hospital in Omaha Wednesday and had surgery on Thursday. Mrs Robert Shostrom is a patient in York hospital suffering from infectious hepatitis. Mrs Grant Johnson returned home from Osceola hospital on Monday. Mitch Hahn, son of Mr and Mrs Dolan Hahn, entered York hospital Monday night. Mervin Silver Branting of York is a patient at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. Mr Marvin Fredrickson and Mrs Arlette Johnson attended the Flodman Fink wedding Saturday at Bevan Fundamental Church in Broken Bow.
