The Polk Bachelor Club held a Christmas party featuring a shelved fireplace plan, stockings, and a gift exchange guided by Emil Larson. Members received varied gifts including overalls, a bicycle snow tire, and a book, while Arnon Dover s was honored with a Famous Bachelors volume. Legion Auxiliary Hosts Junior Auxiliary for Christmas Meeting

Polk Cubs Beat Hampton Hawks In Season Opener 49-44

Polk Cubs defeated Hampton Hawks 49-44 to open the season at Hampton. Carlstrom led with 19 points for Polk, Wood 10, Lindgren 3, Kohtz 15 for Hampton, as the Cubs outscored the Hawks in fourth quarter and grabbed 45 rebounds to 23. Coach Adamson announced starters and next home game against Silver Creek.

Mrs H E Warren Dies. Longtime Polk Resident

Mrs H E Warren died Sunday at Papillion after years in Polk where her husband led the Polk schools as superintendent and she taught in the grade school. She is survived by her husband, now count school superintendent, of 1008 Jackson Street Papillion Nebraska.

Mr and Mrs C. A. Whittemore of Park View Home Central City will observe their 60th wedding anniversary on December 16. The Whittemores moved this year from Park to the Central City home. Friends are asked to remember them with cards.

Rites Wednesday For Lyman Lampshire 75

Funeral services for Lyman E. Lampshire 75 of Hordville will be held at 2 p m Wednesday at the Hordville Baptist Church with Rev Loren Winchester officiating. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery near Hordville. He died Saturday evening in Central City hospital after 11 days there. He was born March 19 1893 near Hordville to John and Rosetta Lampshire. He married Goldie Benson on March 16 1920 at Lincoln. He was a farmer a World War I veteran and lived most of his life in the Hordville community. Survivors include three daughters Lorraine Flodman Polk Deloris Flodman Central City Darlene Meerkatz Lincoln four sons Eugene Newburg Donald Hordville Merlyn Holdrege Gilbert Calmer Hordville two brothers Wesley Lincoln Gilbert Polk two sisters Elsie Tuttle Omaha Dorothy Pederson Longmont Colo 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Obituary for Arnold H Carlson Clarks area farmer

Arnold Herman Carlson born February 27 1924 near Osceola grew up in the area and married Betty Dittmer in Clarks on November 17 1950. He and his wife raised three sons on farms north of Clarks and east of Clarks in Polk county. He belonged to Swede Home Lutheran Church later Clarks Methodist Church and the Clarks Lions Club. Survived by Betty sons Joey Jerry and Jimmy his mother Mrs Hannah Carlson and sister Mrs Francis Carlstrom.

Polk County Farmers Union Holds Oyster Supper Meeting

The Polk County Farmers Union met in Polk December 2 at the Polk Community Hall. An oyster feed cooked by Martin Jones of Osceola and helpers served about 40 members. Tables carried Christmas decor. President Paul Swanson of Stromsburg presided. M G Lindburg presented wildlife habit slides.

Polk Christmas Draws 25 Turkeys Saturday

Polk Community Club hosts a free Turkey drawing Saturday at 3:00 PM with 25 turkeys for winners. Registration runs from 9:00 AM. Also a home decorating contest with $30, $25, $15, and $10 prizes. Rural area bounds shown. Winners announced after Santa's visit on December 21.

The Polk Woman's Club met at Mrs Paul Strand's home on Tuesday December 3 for a Christmas party. A 6:30 dinner was served by Mrs Strand assisted by several members.
