Santa Claus will visit Polk on Saturday December 20 to greet children and distribute candy. A matinee show and door prizes accompany Fredrickson Implement's formal opening in their new Polk building with free lunch, shows, and equipment displays for the public.
Orman Jeffrey, 78, of west of Benedict, was found in his basement after a heart attack. Neighbor and Harold Beattie of Matz Mortuary rushed him to York General Hospital where a respirator revived him. Doctors reported his condition much better the next morning. Two Polk couples celebrated 25 years of marriage at Immanuel Lutheran Church with guests, songs, and a luncheon.
Velma Bush and Samuel Randall were married Friday at the Tomlinson home with Rev. Tomlinson officiating. Attendants were Dor Rice and Mrs Rice. The couple plan to live in Clarks after a dinner at DeLancey Cafe.
Mr and Mrs W G Lindberg and Mr and Mrs E W Hahn visited Mr and Mrs Lloyd Nordet ed and family at Lincoln Wednesday.
Nine Normal Training Class members will travel to Osceola on Saturday December 13 to take teaching exams. Genoa Band Clinic postponed from December 5 due to weather and will be rescheduled. Pep Club attendees included four cheerleaders a president a news reporter and a sponsor at Kramer High in Columbus. Herman Gerlick Jr University of Nebraska cheerleader demonstrated. Jeannine Lind attended the morn panel. Barbara Allen Dean's College cheerleader read in the afternoon. Ring salesmen for Juniors and Commencement Announcements will showcase January 5 with Jostens Lord Herr Jones and Balfour. Mr Mrs John Adams Hastings Mr and Mrs Gordon Fossberg and Mr Mrs Wallace Sanders and families dined with their parents Frank Fossberg.
Miss Rose Beck daughter of Metro Beck of Clarks wed Reuben Anderson son of Mr and Mrs Oscar Anderson of Polk in a 9 30 am ceremony at St Peter and Paul Catholic Church Clarks Rev John Kutzkel officiated Attendants included maid of honor Barbara Beck bridesmaids Joyce Staros ka and Betty Konvenski best man Albin Beck and groomsman Lawrence Swantek Both brides wore satin gowns with key hole necklines and trains They carried white chrysanthemums and the bridal party wore coordinated pink blue and brown ensembles A dinner for fifty followed at the bride’s home and a wedding dance was held in Silver Creek The couple plan a California honeymoon and will reside on a farm south of Clarks
The American Legion Auxiliary met December 9 at the Hall. President Mrs. Isaacson led the business meeting. A Christmas party was planned for December 16. The Rehabilitation Committee reported two boxes packed for "Thanks for the ranks" and other aid items sent to the Veterans Hospital gift shop.
A birthday party was given Friday afternoon in honor of Sherman Stevens. Guests included Mrs Elmer Wilsusen and Sherman, Mrs Raymond Sagehorn and Gary, Mrs Norman Reetz and Kathy, Mrs Lester Graves, Sally and Shelia, and Mrs Elwyn Johnson and Gail.
Children from the Methodist Sunday School entertained their mothers with a Christmas program in the church parlors. Kodak Chrome Slides illustrated the Christmas story while the group collected gifts for Mother Jewel's Home in York and 600 Butternut labels for Omaha City Mission. WSCS ladies served refreshments.
Farmers Co op Association of Hordville met at the Town Hall on Monday afternoon. T A Williamson and Otto Anderson were elected directors for a three year term. The association paid 4 percent interest on capital stock and a 4 percent patronage dividend. Total business volume reached 1 356 728 41 dollars and net profits were 59 914 60 dollars.
Winners in the picture contest sponsored by The Progress and the Wortz Studio are Janice Anderson first prize Janice Creech second prize Dennis Widga third prize and Danny Wortz fourth prize. Photos of winners are on display at The Progress office until December 16 and parents may call for the pictures after that date.
A sequence of social visits filled the weekend with birthday celebrations and hosting duties. Guests included Mr and Mrs Irvin Paben and family and others at the Flick home. the 20th Century Club met at Mrs Robert Merchant’s. and multiple relatives visited D C Morris and family in Oskaloosa.
About 75 people attended the County 4-H Achievement meeting in Osceola auditorium. County Championship medals were awarded to 4-H club members for dress revue homemaking home economics crops and electrification projects. Mrs George Irland received long service recognition for 20 years as a 4-H club leader. Bonnie Gibbons performed a piano solo. Myron Ostrander touted 4-H crops profits of 611.50 in four years. A taxpaying notice follows with details on 1947 estimates and final returns and a recognition from Extension services and local chamber of commerce.
The world premiere of Ice Cycles of 1948 opens December 25 at Ak-Sar-Ben Coliseum Omaha. The show features Poetry in Plastic Oriental Fantasy On the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond Pageant of Medieval Days and more with returning stars and new Ice Wollies performers. Tickets run 2.75 for boxes and rinkside, 2.00 balcony, 1.25 economy with Sunday matinees December 28 and January 4.
