Farmers Sign For Final ACP Payment In Polk County
Farmers in Polk County signed final ACP applications across nine precincts last week. Over 300000 in conservation payments will reach the county shortly via checks. The county office handled the entire process this year, increasing staff and lowering association expenses from 70 percent to 5.1 percent. Most payments fall between 60 and 185.99 dollars with a 14 dollar increase, while payments over 200 dollars receive no increase. County committee staff offer help with questions.

Feldt Dies by Hanging Over Estate Litigation
Elmer Feldt, 56, a carpenter of Lincoln, hanged himself in the basement of his home at about 2:15 am Tuesday using a window sash rope. His wife Lucy found him hours later. Dr H B Miller pronounced him dead. Sheriff Davis investigated amid notes Feldt was discouraged by a protracted estate dispute and prior suicide attempts. Feldt had lived in Lincoln 20 years and left a widow and stepson Clayton Anderson. He wished to be buried in Aurora. The case related to his contest of the Peterson estate and a Polk County district court loss with an expected Supreme Court decision.

Polk County farmers may obtain 1939 corn loans under AAA rules starting December 1. Rates are 57 cents per bushel in the commercial area and 43 cents outside, with mixed corn at 65 cents and 41 cents respectively. Loans cover up to 76 percent of parity with parity set at 22 cents. outside-area loans are 75 percent of the inside-area rate. Most loans require one county AAA office visit to sign notes, chattel mortgage, and insurance certificates.

Former Polk business man Emil Englund dies in Omaha
Emil Englund, 57, a former Polk resident and businessman who partnered with Albert Peterson, died Sunday evening at University Hospital in Omaha. He left Polk in his youth to settle in Chapell. Survived by his wife four sons and one daughter. Funeral services were held at Brauer Funeral Home and the Baptist Church with Rev. R. M. Bailey officiating. Interment in LaClede cemetery. Obituary to follow next week.
