State to buy sandpit lakes near Louisville for recreation

The Nebraska game and park board plans to spend about 9 500 for a 190 acre tract with sandpit lakes near Louisville, opposed to an earlier 5 060 price estimate. Funds from fishing and hunting licenses will cover the purchase as the site could host fishing and camping for Lincoln and Omaha residents.

Lincoln Highway May Reach Omaha to Grand Island Paved

Merrick county residents push for full paving of the Lincoln Highway from Omaha to Grand Island by 1930. A paving contract between Schuyler and Ames is expected in spring, creating a continuous Omaha to Columbus route. Nebraska Lincoln Highway Association hopes Columbus to Grand Island is paved next year with possible 1930 work east of Kearney and between North Platte and Kearney.

Box Butte Crops Worth Nearly Four Million Across Two Years

Alliance chamber of commerce figures show Box Butte county crops totaling 3,997,070 dollars from wheat and potatoes in the past year. Winter wheat 2,020,634 on 85,897 acres. spring wheat 356,386 on 20,483 acres. Potatoes valued at 1,640,000 on 11,200 acres, including 740,000 on 4,000 certified acres and 900,000 on 17,200 table stock acres. Between July 1, 1928 and November 1, 1929, 2,205 carloads of grain shipped. Much wheat from prior years stored on farms.

Apple Shipping Season Ends at Shubert Nebraska

Stella-Shubert Bros. completed the harvest at Shubert the state’s largest apple shipping point. They dispatched 50 to 60 carloads nationwide this season. The crop was of fine quality and sold well, but total yield was below normal due to wet cold weather in spring causing bud drop. The fruit matched last year in size.

Fatal coal gas incident in Omaha claims Steiner couple

Doctors at St. Joseph's hospital warned recovery unlikely for 73 year old Frank Steiner and his 67 year old wife after coal gas fumes from a clogged flue entered their Omaha home. The couple was revived only partially and state the outcome remains doubtful.
