Missouri to Host Japan Surrender Ceremony in Tokyo Bay
The 45 000 ton USS Missouri will be the scene of Japan's unconditional surrender on August 31 1945 in Tokyo Bay. General MacArthur will designate the site and Fleet Admiral Nimitz will sign for the United States with allied forces represented by General MacArthur. The Missouri launched January 29 1944 with keel laid January 6 1941 at New York Navy Yard.

An improved 40 acre farm located three miles northeast of Polk sold at referee’s sale Tuesday to Theodore S. Moberg of Stromsburg. The price paid was 75 dollars per acre.

4-H Girls Shine At Polk County Fair Exhibits
The Polk County Fair featured 172 exhibits from nine clubs in a strong 4-H showing. Leaders praised Junior Fair Board members and club supervisors, with Bryan's Busy Bees winning best booth and Doris Fyfe earning a blue ribbon in Summer Wardrobe.
