A lengthy reminiscence recalls a centenarian’s journey from horse and buggy days in Michigan to space age memories, detailing family, moves from Holdrege Nebraska to Polk Iowa, work at a country store in West Hill Genoa, and a lifelong resilience with aging and memory challenges.
Immanuel Lutheran Church will celebrate its 95th anniversary on Sunday September 7 with a 10 a.m. service led by Rev. Marvin Gruett guest preacher. A pot luck meal will follow and a program by Peggy Sharman and Peggy Schulze will recount the congregation history. The church dates back to 1880 with 12 founding families and has been part of a dual parish with Zion Lutheran since 1971.
Mr and Mrs Dennis Van Housen announce the birth of a girl on Sunday August 24 1975 at York General Hospital weighing 9 pounds 3 ounces Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Lloyd Van Housen and Mr and Mrs Vergil Bush.
Mr and Mrs Lowell Bills observe their 25th anniversary with an open house at home from 8 to 10 p m on Saturday August 30. Hosting are their children Ken Paula Luann and Mr and Mrs John Boyle. The couple request your presence not presents.
Senior Citizens group hosts a bingo session at the Legion Hall on Wednesday September 4. The event invites seniors to join games and socialize in a community setting hosted by the local Legion post.
The school board shifts its meeting to Monday September 8 due to a holiday. During the week the Summer Recreation Fund gains 125 dollars with early donations from Mr Anonymous and Gravel Grandma, plus 100 dollars from Mr and Mrs Anonymous. Fritz Stevens donates 25 dollars to the Community Hall Fund in memory of Lawrence Ackerman, though the Progress did not acknowledge the gift. Anonymous also contributes 10 dollars to the Hall Fund. The plan for September 15 auction needs more items. only buffalo nickels from Ira Glasser were added this week and progress asks for sale items to be phoned in.
Sigrid Judith Lindeberg born March 15 1880 near Gothenburg Sweden died August 22 1975 at Midwest Covenant Home Stromsburg Nebraska. She immigrated in 1882 with family, lived in Wisconsin Michigan Iowa before settling Polk Nebraska. Survived by five daughters three sons one sister twenty six grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Services held August 25 at First Baptist Church Polk with Rev Ken G Burke officiating.
