Polk’s Bean Days start soon with 800 Progress samples mailed to promote the event. Local sponsors Polk Grain, Farmers Co-op Grain, Citizens State Bank and Custom Farm Service back beef and ham barbecues while bean day shade suffers from elm loss.
Polk Bean Days starts September 3 with a teen dance at Polk Community Hall. A parade begins at 10:30 followed by free beans and barbecued beef in the park. Tractor pulls, a garden tractor event, a style show, races on Main Street, chicken supper, evening program and dance follow, with a flower show and silver tea by the Polk Garden Club and R&L Carnival rides on Main Street.
The annual Polk County picnic for Coloradans from that Nebraska county will be held from noon to 5 p.m. August 29 at Elitch Gardens Denver at Elitch's Carousel Pavilion near W 38th Ave and Tennyson St. Beverages are provided, attendees should bring their own lunch, and free tickets will be distributed at the west gate.
