Polk Public Schools set to open Monday August 27 at 8:30 AM for a half day, with Grades 4-12 starting 8:30 and K-3 at 8:45. Bus routes begin around 7:20 AM. full days start Tuesday with noon dismissal and hot lunches 25 cents, contact Kenneth Sand for schedule questions.

Polk's softball town team will play two games this week. Swede Home tangles with the locals on Thursday at 8 p.m. Polk travels to Clarks on Friday for a fourth game with the boys north of the river. Last week Polk lost 15-5 at Clarks due to errors and lack of hustle. Earlier this year Polk defeated Clarks 11-4 and 18-5.
Polk Commercial Club invites acts for a talent show on Saturday September 8 at 8:00 PM on the north side stage of Polk Park. Four prizes will be awarded. Contact Bruce Johnson to enter and participate in organizing the event.
The Hordville public schools begin Friday August 31 at 9 am with a half day session until noon. Kindergarten starts in the second semester. New teachers Larry Smith and Jerry Mueller join the staff alongside returning administrator Darrell Montgomery and principal Verna Erickson. Continuing elementary teachers include Martha Creech Gladys John Mae Wisely and Wanda Ediger with other staff such as Gilbert Necker Bertha Anderson Glen Carlson and Rev Gorman Foley aboard.
In a 28 0 North victory Regy Green of Polk stood out on defense. He logged five unassisted tackles and three assists while forcing a quarterback sack and stopping a fake punt. Lynn Hasselbaich scored for North with a 53 yard interception return. Regg had 42 receptions last season but played only defense this game.

Polk residents plan a two day Bean Day with football at Stromsburg on Friday at 7 30 PM followed by a dance with Bobby Mills and his orchestra. Saturday features a bean lunch in the park a parade a horse show and a talent show with Four Aces and a clown. Admission details given with tickets and rides on Main Street Carnival attractions planned.
