Polk Schools Open 8:30 Monday for 1976-77 Term

The 1976-77 Polk Schools term starts at 8:30 a.m. Monday August 30 with a half day and short class periods. Full day sessions begin Tuesday with lunch. buses follow May schedules and will return students home by noon on opening day.

Four Polk County 4-H Members Shine at District Dairy Show

Four Polk County 4-H members competed in the District Dairy Show in Grand Island on August 6. Purple and blue ribbon winners qualify for Ak-Sar-Ben Dairy Show in September. Patti Bender earned multiple honors including blue ribbons and Dairy Queen candidate. Terry Bender earned red ribbons in several Holstein classes.

Roger Gustafson of Hordville underwent surgery at the St. Francis hospital in Grand Island last week. Russell Fjell entered York hospital on Sunday for tests.

Funeral for Julia Jones 85 in Polk

Julia Jones 85 died Sunday morning at Osceola hospital. Funeral services 10:00 am Wednesday August 11 at First Baptist Church Polk with burial at ONeill. She was sister of Enoch Peterson and Esther Morgan of Polk. An obituary will appear in next week's Progress.

Polk items note Mr and Mrs Rudolph Gustafson visiting Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Oscar Sundberg spent the afternoon as a coffee guest of Mrs Conrad Lindholm. Gary Wheeler of Lincoln visits his grandparents Mr and Mrs Wilmer Johnson for the week.

Two New Teachers for Polk Fifth Sixth Grades

Two new teachers join the Polk faculty for 1976 77. Miss Susan Ockinga from Kearney High School and Kearney State College will teach secondary art and fifth grade. Miss Patricia West, a Pleasanton High School and Kearney State College graduate, will teach sixth grade with a special interest in piano.

Summer Rec Fund Benefit Ball Game Receipts

Annual Polk County Nebraska picnic scheduled in Fort Collins City Park Colorado on August 22 from 12:00 noon to 5 p.m. Attendees should bring a picnic dinner and table service for their family. Coffee will be furnished and all Colorado residents or visitors are invited.

Manley Ray Fisher obituary from Blair Neb

Manley Ray Fisher died at his Blair home Friday July 30 at age 80. Born February 26 1896 in Bradshaw Neb he married Mary Mabel Porter May 5 1917. Survived by wife two sons two daughters sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral August 3 at Blair Congregational Church with interment in Blair Cemetery.
