The Polk Progress lists mailing classifications and subscription prices including Nebraska four dollars per year and five dollars elsewhere, six months two fifty, three months one fifty, single copy ten cents, and practical charges for obituaries and advertising per column inch. Richard Dunn Inducted into Armed Forces

Richard Charles Dunn, son of Mr and Mrs Lewis C Dunn of Osceola, was forwarded to Omaha Induction Station on Wednesday July 27 for induction into the Armed Forces.

Conservation phases installed by Polk County farmers

Polk County farmers completed varied conservation phases in the past month. Cooperators assisted with land leveling include Fred Scow Shelby Lester Widga Stromsburg Leo Lassek Duncan and Sam Luchsinger Columbus Marvin Rystrom Benedict Marion Treadway Shelby Nean McKeag Osceola John B Swertzie and Ted Wyman Silver Creek. Dams were completed with Verlin Fellows Stromsburg John D Wieseman Horace McKeag Osceola and Wayne Stallings Shelby. Diversions were built on farms of Bill Reckling Comstock and Lester Widga Stromsburg. Waterways finished on Lester Widga Stromsburg and Ralph Donelson Benedict open drains on Raymond Schott Nean McKeag Osceola and W W Kosch Shelby.

Polk WSCS August Meeting at Polk Methodist Church

The Women's Society of Christian Service met in the church parlors on August 4. Becky and Debbie Miller performed on piano accordions during the program on Living in the Science Age. Twenty-eight attendees enjoyed lunch after the business session led by president Mrs Neil McNaught.

Jehovah Witness Assembly Draws Attendees From Many Lands

Mr and Mrs Mervin Oberg and Mr and Mrs Floyd Oberg traveled home after a five day Assembly of Jehovah Witnesses in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. The Winnipeg Football Stadium was converted into a convention hall for July 27 31 with 18207 attending the final day. Delegation was led by local presiding minister Mr Mervin Oberg and attendees came from 36 states seven provinces Central and South America Denmark India Africa and Japan.

Picnic Supper Guests Visit Glenn Hill Family

Mr. Orlie Miller of York and Mr. and Mrs. Chas Lytle attended a Tuesday picnic supper at the Glenn Hill home. Other visitors included Mr and Mrs Glenn Hill Mrs Dwight Burney Mrs Irvin Anderson and Mrs Bulah Gustafson who called on Mrs Blanche Fitz Sunday at Parkside Homes in Grand Island.
