County Extension Agent Howard L. Peterson announces a tentative farm tour on August 30 starting at 10 a.m. from the Polk County Court House. The tour features contour farming soil tests irrigation and hybrid corn practices to boost income with stops at sorghum tests and other demonstrations. Previous tours in nearby counties drew crowds over 500 people.

Farmer Injured as Team Run Away Near Polk
Arnon Dover, a farmer southeast of Polk, was severely injured Saturday morning when his frightened team bolted. He fell in front of the wagon and the disc. Three bones in one foot were broken and he suffered cuts and bruises. Dover stopped the horses after a circle in the field and rode one home, then was brought to town for treatment by Dr. Williams.

Extension planned for Polk County corn loans
Polk county farmers may extend government sealed corn loans for 12 months from August 1, 1939 to August 1, 1940. The extension covers 625 bushels of 1937 crop and 148,655 bushels of 1938 crop in Polk County. A 7 cent per bushel incentive is paid if corn is delivered to satisfy the loan at the end of the period. If market price exceeds loan rate plus storage, farmers may forgo storage credit but gain through higher sale price.

Polk County Farmers Must Sign Wheat Plan for 1940
Polk county farmers will soon sign the Wheat Plan for Participation in 1940 to indicate intent to join the 1940 AAA wheat program. County committee chairman Robert C. Taddiken says signing ties eligibility to parity payments and planting within acreage allotments. While plans circulate, crop insurance is offered to all county wheat growers under the 1940 program. Farmers who plant without signing lose eligibility for both programs.

Delinquent Tax Drive Gains Ground in Platte County
Platte county reports progress in collecting delinquent taxes. Sheriff Person notes 2,200 of 4,000 distress warrants issued. 68 individuals have paid part or full amounts totaling $684. County Treasurer Louis cites $2,242 collected with 310 warrants returned. First seizure to satisfy taxes was an automobile. Sheriff A R Johnson says $4,000 in delinquent personal taxes have been collected in two weeks from 1,600 warrants turned over by Treasurer Atkins.
