Former Polk residents Mr and Mrs Charles Crew celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with an open house on Sunday August 9 from 3 to 5 pm at 144 North 12th Street Geneva Nebraska.
Mrs Dean Myers entertained in honor of Carla eleventh birthday with classmate guests. The group traveled to Stromsburg for an afternoon of swimming and lunch was served at the park in the late afternoon.
Registration for grades opens August 26 with ninth and tenth grades that day and eleventh and twelfth on August 27. Schoolwork resumes after extensive remodeling including restroom and flooring upgrades and new subflooring in several rooms.

The regular summer program concludes August 6 with tournaments starting next week. Girls compete in a softball tournament at Hampton Monday at 6 45 p m while boys play baseball in Clarks against Osceola at 7 p m Tuesday. Tony Warnick son of Mr and Mrs Leonard Warnick is in Kansas City today August 6 as a guest of the World Herald group at the Kansas City club game. He traveled with fellow World Herald delivery boys who were invited to the big league event.

Brian Hoffman nine son of Mr and Mrs Curtis Hoffman suffered a severe cut to his left foot when he ran from a corn field into a pull type mower in a nearby hay field on Monday July 27. Doctors in York General Hospital saved part of his heel and expect eventual ability to walk.
Gilbert A. Gertsch 73 died Tuesday morning at Osceola hospital after a heart attack while admitted. Born April 5 1891 at Platte Center Nebraska he was a breeder of Brown Swiss cattle. Survived by wife Susan two sons Milton and Calvin a daughter Margaret Schaepler and eleven grandchildren. Funeral at Polk Methodist Church Friday at 10 with Rev O A Johnson officiating. Interment Arborville Cemetery. Body at Wall Funeral Home Polk.
Four young girls were injured in a one car accident two miles west and two south of Polk after a Polk Hampton softball game. Driver Connie Splinter 16 lost the curve at the York Polk county line. Passengers Ann Lindell 15 Lin da Bamesberger 15 and Marcia Splinter 13 suffered cuts and injuries. Ann Lindell had the most serious injuries and all were taken to Osceola hospital.
Willadsen announces a Saturday night band concert featuring guests Karen Stevens Roger Nielsen John R. Rogers Roy Johnson and Harold Shaw. The program includes Bandology Eric Osterling Apple Valley Overture J Olivadoti In a Persian Market and several marches and classical pieces.
