Nebraska Capitol Pins Hope On August Adjournment
Nebraska lawmakers push toward an August adjournment by August 13 as leaders seek a compromise on reapportionment. The plan by Sen. George Gerdes would create 49 districts with Douglas County gaining 12 seats, while unions of urban and rural lawmakers debate county-line constraints and the risk of at large elections. A state land sale bill and investment change also dominate talks, along with a new state trade school, the 407 final approval of a $201.6 million budget, and hiring for 30 Nebraska Highway Patrol troopers.
