Gwendolyn Kralek to wed Albert Menard Jr in Omaha

Cornhuskers Win First League Game

In Polk Softball League action the Cornhuskers upset Johnsons to claim their first league win as Upsets spread through the week. Wes Johnston held the Oilers to six hits while Marlowe Johnson Don Forgs and Roy Hanquist led the offense for the Cornhuskers in a 17 to 12 slugfest.

Arborville Congregational Church Celebrates 75th Anniversary

The Arborville Congregational Church marked its 75th anniversary with a July 22 ceremony near the actual founding date in 1876. Rev. E Baton led a morning service, special music by the Clarks and Arborville choirs, and sermons by Rev. A W Taylor and Rev. F W Mann. A basket lunch followed at the Town Hall, then an afternoon program included Rev. C F Wantz, a vocal solo, historical greetings, and a dedication service led by Rev. J Chris Nyrop. Guests came from Iowa Missouri and Kansas with well wishers from several states and Mexico.

John Bills Severely Burned While Fueling Tractor

John Bills suffered severe burns to his right arm when tractor fuel ignited while filling the tractor in a field on Wednesday afternoon. His nephew quickly transported him for medical care and his outer clothing billfold and watch were burned. Quick action to close the gas tank likely saved the tractor.
