Olson-Swanson couple wed at Swede Home Church
Anna Belle Olson, daughter of Mr and Mrs Clifford Branting of Polk, married Reuben Swanson, son of Mrs August R Swanson of Clarks, on Sunday April 4 at 2 pm. Rev C A Sward officiated. Attendants were Lloyd Adelgon and Mrs Marie Sherwood. The bride wore white taffeta with pink carnation corsage. The groom wore blue. They left for Omaha and will live on his mother's farm west of Swede Home.

Miller Succeeds Davis as Commercial Club President
At the regular monthly meeting of the Commercial Club on Monday night Frank W. Davis resigned as President. Vice President Bill Miller was elevated to President and Glenn Hill was elected Vice President. The club praised Davis and accepted the resignation with regret. Over forty members attended.

Thompson elected Lyons schools superintendent in Nebraska
Osceola Wm E Thompson has been elected superintendent of Lyons Nebraska schools and will take the post after this school year. He will receive a higher salary and a moving expense bonus. Thompson arrived in Lyons in 1928 as principal, has served four years as principal, led as superintendent for five years, and was re elected for a sixth term.

Fire Destroys Old Brick Homestead on Osceola Farm
A fire in Osceola damaged an old brick homestead on Oswald Kropatsch’s farm north of town. Built in the eighties and now a machine shed, the blaze likely started from sparks near a nearby steam engine used with a power saw. Nearby travelers A V Tyrell and Mrs Johnson visited briefly before continuing their trips. The Progressive Shepherd club met at Junior Carlson’s home with Phillip Jones hosting the next meeting on April 23. Members and F B Kelly later joined the Aberdeen Angus judging contest in Columbus Monday.

Memorial Trophy Seven On Display At Lincoln Window
The Oliver Wendell Holmes Memorial Trophy of Nebraska is on display in the Pure Food Grocery window in Lincoln. The sixth councilor district Polk Butler Seward Hamilton Saunders and York counties earned the 1934 maternal mortality low of one death in 1460 births. The award honors the lowest maternal mortality and is presented by the University of Nebraska College of Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology. First given in 1936 by a state medical association committee, statistics are by the Bureau of Vital Statistics.

Folk Women's Club Holds Meeting and Charity Drive
The Folk Women's Club met Tuesday at Mrs A E Sundberg's home with Mrs Oscar Jones and Mrs Wallace Sandell assisting. They voted to donate 1.00 to the cancer drive and Easter stamps totaling 1.54 were sent to the Nebraska Society for Crippled Children. Miss Johnson and her 6th grade pupils demonstrated Character E education for the club. After lunch the meeting adjourned.

Village Wins Case Over Baking Company
In Seward District Court Judge Harry D. Landis fined the Smith Baking Company of Lincoln on three counts for a total of $75 plus costs. The case was carried up from the Utica Village Court where a driver was fined $5 and costs for violating the Utica Village Ordinance on occupation tax.
