Nostalgic sketch recalls Earl Adamson coaching basketball and Harold Schultz turning to fly fishing and cafe life on Main St. amid Christmas decorations, kite building mishaps, and plans for a May kite contest with prizes for all ages and even dogs.
Former Lt. Governor and Mrs. Dwight Burney spoke at the Merrick County Teachers Association meeting on April 6 at Silver Creek. Mrs. Ida Burmood was program chairman and previously taught in Polk about 30 years ago. The couple shared colored slides and recounted their FWA trip to Pakistan. Also noted are visitors Michael and Michelle Hahn with their parents in Central City.
Polk High will host the annual Polk County Track Meet on Thomas Day April 13 starting at 12 30 P M. The Polk track squad lists seven lettermen including Dick Sealey Steve Saylor Joel Stevens Tom Stevens Dob Neuhaus Loren Wilshusen Jon Saylor and more with 24 additional athletes named for events in sprints relays and field events.
Rainbow Rebekah Lodge No. 382 Polk sent 15 members to the 40th annual Rebekah District 14 session at IOOF Hall in Shelby on April 8. Polk elected Jo Ostberg as District Musician and Vivian Funk as District Conductor for 1968. Myrtle Bush represented Polk in unwritten work. Shelby Church ladies provided luncheon. Polk entertained with a special number. Shelby served coffee and cookies to 80 attendees.
Mrs Glen Brazda was installed as president at the April 4 meeting in Mrs Lloyd Strombergs home. Officers include Mrs Paul Strand as vice president Mrs James Brazda Sr Secretary and Mrs Leslie Adelson as treasurer A Nebraskaland lesson was given by Mrs Mae Sundberg An outdoor meeting was planned for May 2 with lunch served by Mrs Adelson and the hostess
Polk Public Schools request no visitors after April 19 this year as in past years. Parents are urged to cooperate and follow the rule to ensure orderly school operations.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary met April 10 to sew for the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island. The session included a legislative report, a roller skating party recap, and a Legion Party talk. They planned an Beatrice Home trip, a Osceola Tea, Poppy Day, and a $2 contribution to the Freedom Foundation Seminar. Charleen Haack read the 1st prize Americanism Essay. Lyle Lindgren 2nd prize attended. Sixteen members and five visitors.
Wanda Flodman daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayland Flodman admitted as patient at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital Osceola Saturday Diane Thompson patient in Osceola hospital Saturday and Sunday recuperating at home
The girls softball team had their first practice Monday night. Coach Bill LaVelle says the team will be tough this year. Boys aged 11 to 16 should meet next Monday at the bat field at 7 00 P M with their suit. Return worn suits for those too old to play. If rain, meeting moves to the fire hall. Younger boys meet later.
The Swede Plain WSCS met in the church on April 5 at 8 00 p m with Mrs Robert Clymer leading devotions. President Mrs Lester Widga opened the business session. Program leaders were Mrs Alvena Lind and Mrs Lennis Lind.
Sunday dinner guests at Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Nyberg included Merlin Nyberg Connie Mary Linda Nyberg of Omaha. Afternoon visitors and lunch guests were Alvin Stranberg family of Hordville Arvid Stranberg and boys of Central City Phil Nyberg and girls of Osceola. Mrs. Wilbur Whitacre visited the Alford Green family Friday.
Mrs James Maly of Fullerton spoke on her South America slides at the Legion Birthday Party in the Legion Hall on April 6 with 65 attendees. She and Dr Maly described crashlanding in the Brazilian jungle and establishing a medical clinic for locals, followed by a luncheon organized by the kitchen committee.

Mr and Mrs Robert Shostrom visited Friday evening with Mrs Selma Carlson and Mrs Martha Simpson at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg and were later visitors and coffee guests of Mr and Mrs Hans Nelson. Mrs Alma Oliver of Omaha has moved into the Merrick Manor in Central City. She is a sister of Mrs Edd Coover. Mr and Mrs Dean Myers were Sunday afternoon callers on Mrs Myrtle Myers at Aurora.
