Meeting at H Kyle home features papers and songs

The organization held its monthly gathering at H Kyle's residence on Thursday evening February 11. Clifton spoke on Co operation, Mrs Fred Roewe discussed Canning and Curing of Meats, Johnnie sang a vocal piece. A luncheon followed and the group praised Mr and Mrs Kyle as royal entertainers.

Webster City Debating Team Defeats Laurens Debaters

Webster City visited Laurens High School to debate the immigration question at the Methodist Church. Webster City carried the affirmative while Laurens argued the negative in front of a small crowd. I. L. Botts presided with judges Supt. W. E. Huff Gowrie Supt. Bangs Paullina and editor Joel E. Johnson Marathon.

Death of Early Marshall Township Resident R E Greene

R E Greene longtime resident and early settler of Marshall township died in Rochester, Minnesota, at age 50. He taught in the township, married Frances Jane Kibble, moved with her to Sioux Rapids and then Kansas before settling north of Maryville, Missouri. Funeral services are scheduled for 11.

Funeral Services for Mr Greene Held in Nodaway County

The funeral takes place tomorrow morning at the chapel of Price McNeal Undertaking with Rev. Robert L. Finch of First Christian Church presiding. Interment follows in Miriam cemetery. Mr Green and family moved to Nodaway county from Marathon Iowa two years ago. He leaves a wife and one son. Mr Greene’s body arrived in Maryville from Rochester this morning after a short stay for treatment.

Benj Mather Wins Honor at State University Oratorical

Benj Mather earned second place in a nine contestant oratorical contest at the State University last Friday night. He had previously won high school declamations and wrote his own speech for the university event, showing promise for future success.

Deaths toll claims two longtime community ladies

Two of the oldest residents and well known women, Mrs. H. O. Austin and Grandma Wells, died this morning after long illnesses. Funeral arrangements note Mrs. Austin at 10:00 tomorrow from the Catholic Church, and Grandma Wells from the Methodist Church. Full obituaries to follow next week.
