Light Buick 6 Exhibit at Laurens School

Pickerel Lake dam plans eyed to raise water level

Dr Waterhouse deputy state fish and game warden outlined a survey at Pickerel Lake and a dam at the outlet to raise the lake about two feet and stock it with game fish this fall. The project follows petitions from landowners and state action, with the lake expected to become a regional resort in two to three years and valued more than farm land after improvements. Old Family Clock Heirloom From England to Ogdensburg

F K Hawley received a high hall weight clock from relatives in Ogdensburg New York last Monday. The timepiece, likely two centuries old, was brought from England by Hawley’s grandfather in 1837 and has belonged to his great great grandfather. Hawley recalls hiding inside the clock in childhood in New York state and values the heirloom highly.

Fred Ferguson Wins First in Laurens High Essay Contest

Fred Ferguson of Laurens High School won the Laurens area essay contest on Why I expect to be a Farmer. He receives free transport and ten days at the Iowa State Fair as part of the State Boys Camp with a county representative. Fred Hansen oversees the camp as coordinator. The program places boys on grounds acting as special police and networking with state farmers at the fair.

Fats Defeat Leans 17 to 2 In Rain-Delayed Game

Trene Wheeler arrived home last Saturday after completing school work in Kankakee Illinois. She has been to the coast visiting the Panama Exposition and other points of interest during the trip.

W P Hopkins attended the State Supervisors convention in Des Moines on Tuesday. Mrs A F Muzzy was ill last week at her mother Mrs George Aschenbrenner's home. Mr Muzzy was summoned from Lisbon North Dakota. Clara Schutz, principal in Sheridan Wyoming, survived a train wreck near Harlan on the return trip with no injuries reported. Marathon town council explored a twenty four hour electricity service.

Second in county essay contest names McKinley Larson

McKinley Larson placed second in the county essay contest where Fred Ferguson took first. Larson serves as Fred’s alternate and would win a free trip to the state fair if Fred wins the top prize.

Widow Strain Injured In Fall From Chair

Mrs E C Strain toppled from a chair while adjusting a window curtain on Tuesday. She struck her arm and shoulder, breaking the upper arm bone at the ball and socket. The injury is serious given her age and conditions.
