Strawberry Day Celebration Draws Mammoth Crowds in Pleasant Grove

Mammoth crowds from across the state attended Pleasant Grove for the sixteenth Strawberry Day. The day featured a parade at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., floral and berry exhibits, queen contest with Janice Partington winning, and a 2 p.m. rodeo at city hall park with wild horse and steer acts. Concessions, contests, and garden displays drew steady attendance, with multiple prize events and entertainment throughout the day.

Girl Wins Scholarship to U S A C

Westminister College graduate Lole Binns, daughter of Mr and Mrs Isaac Binns of this city, won a 4 tuition scholarship to the U S A C in Logan. The award cited excellence in scholarship personality and character and reflects her strong work in natural and physical sciences. She plans to continue at U S A C next year.

Future Farmers Exhibit at North Salt Lake Show

The F P A chapter from Pleasant Grove High School displayed at the North Salt Lake Junior Livestock Show on June 8 10. Richard Swenson exhibited three fat lambs LaMont Blackhurst Archie Adams Harold Betzant and Milton Johnson each bed animals on exhibition.

Halliday Named Temporary Assistant Director at Tabernacle

Pleasant Grove relatives celebrate John R Halliday being named temporary assistant director of the Washington DC L D S Tabernacle. He succeeds Sterling Wheelwright as organist and choir leader. Halliday is a music instructor at BYU and has directed the Medelssohn male chorus of Provo.

Nielsen Radmall wedding reception in Third Ward hall

A large crowd attended a reception in the Third Ward amusement hall from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. honoring Mr and Mrs Elroy H Nielsen formerly Fern Radmall. Teas, pink and white decor, and a program with dancing followed a Salt Lake temple wedding June 1. The couple will reside in Pleasant Grove.

Soapstone CCC Training Expands Amid Equipment Delivery

A fictional CCC contingent of 16 enrollees was sent to Soapstone on June 6 for camp preparation. Foreman William Clauston and Brederick Walker lead the site with Educational Advisor Ray Merrill supervising weekly instructional work. New equipment includes two tractors, Catemplar 30, and a trailer, while rock surfacing and road maintenance are planned ahead. Chaplain Curtis and entertainers visited, with talks on self-identity and personal appearance.

4 H Club Notes Highlight Multiple Local Officers

The Happy Chef Cooking Club elected Louise Walker president and Luin Keetch vice president with a slate of officers. A separate 4 H Cooking Club chose Dorothea Yancey as president and Gloria Wad Jey as secretary treasurer, plus reporters and song leaders. A float for Strawberry Day was built, and Manila Bee Bee Dee 4 H Cooking Club organized May 12 with Ruth Swenson and Helen Warnick leading. Members include Leah Jean Swenson as president and Beverly West as vice president and reporter.

Relief Society Officers Meet Sunday in Third Ward

The Relief Society will hold Unior meeting for ward officers Sunday afternoon and the sacra ment meeting Sunday evening in the Third ward. A returned Australian missionary was arranged for by James Walker with special musical numbers. The Third ward Relief Society closed with a program featuring the mothers singing and readings by Lucille Walker and Reve W. Pugai, followed by refreshments.

Council Grants C of C Requests at summer meeting

At a monthly meeting the chamber of commerce sought council approval for Strawberries Day events. Alma Kure spoke for sprinkling, policing, and barbed wire above the ball park fence and near the U P depot to address waste water. A housing fee was set for a USA Peace project this summer.

Marriages for Four Couples Sealed at County Clerk Office

Arthur Hentty Olsen aged 19 of Vine yard and Ardene Adams aged 18 of Pleasant Grove. John Fadiward Madden aged 26 of Westwood California and Hazel Monson aged 19 of Pleasant Grove received marriage certificates at the county clerk’s office this week.

Lehi Fourth ward MTA members delivered a splendid program at Windsor ward concert meet Sunday. Elder H Sheridan Cragan will speak next Sunday. Relief Society stake board plans for a convention tied to the stake conference Friday through Sunday June 46 and 27. Manila ward awaits Elder Torkelsen from Salt Lake City as speaker Sunday. Torkelsen recently returned from Norway with Elder Calvin Swenson. A bus leaves 8 30 a m Saturday to bring stake and ward workers to the Primary Invention. The convention runs Friday Saturday and Sunday.

Measles Epidemic Hits Pleasant Grove Kindergarten
