The Cadmus Club funds a talent contest at Pleasant Grove High School to promote music among seniors. A $25 prize is awarded—$10 for best vocal and $10 for best instrumental performance. Entries due January 4 to Mr. Orwin Jensen or the music department.
The Modernette Club held its Christmas party at Mrs Alta Nobles home on Wednesday. Guests included Betty Gulman who won the guest prize and Ruth Cobbley who took the club prize. Members present listed among others include Ruby Wet Jenn Walker Hallie Jenson Novomi Waller Maxine West Afton Pan Fern Maxfield Beth McMoon Mary Jacobs Ena Atkinson Violet Boor Virginia Chaplin Ruth Cobbley Pearl Fowlie and Mildred.
Members of the Sociability Club enjoyed luncheon and bridge hosted by Mrs. Fred Keatch on Friday evening. Merlyn Walley won high score, Clifton Wadley second, Harvey Hippach bingo. Other attendees included Mrs. Ray Mills, Mrs. Calvi Mills, Mia Dean Atwood, and guest Mrs. Jack Van Doran.
Upholstery class sponsored by the Mafia Ward relief society completes work. Attendees transformed discarded furniture into new pieces, including a rocker from the plains crossed in 1860. Led by Mrs. Rhett Hurat Gardiner, Mrs. Jenney Poulson, and Mrs. Welty Stevens with Home Demonstrators in Utah county.
Mrs. Ethel D. Brinley a 69 year old Pleasant Grove matron was found dead at her home on Wednesday morning. She reportedly suffered a heart attack Monday while preparing breakfast. Her sons Harold Brinley Eldon and Ross Brinley along with Burlin Driggs are among those notified. Funeral arrangements depend on arrival of additional relatives.
Mrs Pearl Wadley hosted a late Sunday afternoon dinner at Mrs Oral Wrights home honoring her mothers birthday anniversary. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Glen Adamson Vern Halliday Teitn Keelemant Salt Lake Citys Mrs Lloyd Adamson Lehi and many Wadley family members from Amf ntvan Park Prova and nearby towns.
BYU dairy farm led artificial insemination efforts with about 1400 cows inseminated in year one. Conception rates are around 58 percent for first services and 85 percent for second services, benefiting small farmers across Utah and neighboring states.
Mr and Mrs Grant Walker and family of Salt Lake City visited with grandparents Mr and Mrs Lawrence Walker and Mr and Mrs Roy Harper and daughter Carolyn of Lovell Wyoming. Elder Mr and Mrs Harper hosted house guests with Mr and Mrs Marvin Radmall and daughter JoAnn in Salt Lake City. A stork report notes a healthy pony birth at Utah Valley hospital in Eugene. Grandparents Milton Adaaeson and Glen Berxant await to welcome the newborn.
The Alpine Stake Tabernacle hosts a Christmas pageant Prince of Peace at 7:30 p.m. December 22 and 23. Directed by Mrs Delbert Chipman and Avuty Teuscher, with Beth Oward and Mr Mrs A Grant assisting. Two special choruses perform along with Alpine Stake MIA chorus. no admission fee.
Anna C Galli 78 widow of Joseph Galli died Monday night at her home after a three month illness. Born April 10 1870 in Denmark she immigrated with her family to Utah as a child and settled in Pleasant Grove. Funeral services set for Saturday at 4 PM in Midway First LDS Ward chapel with burial in Midway Cemetery.
Funeral services for Helmas M. Nelson a longtime Pleasant Grove resident are planned for Saturday December 18 at 2 30 p m in the Third Ward LDS chapel with interment in Pleasant Grove cemetery A memorial service will be held earlier in Salt Lake City at the Harvard Ward chapel Nelson born November 24 1878 in Denmark died Tuesday at his Salt Lake City home survived by his widow and three children. He served as LDS mission president in Denmark around 1910 and was active in temple work and the Liberty Stake. He and Rosa Kate Nelson moved from Pleasant Grove to Salt Lake City years ago where he was custodian at the Belvedere apartment house. He was also connected with the Liberty Stake work and served as a mission president. Survivors include his widow and three children Mrs Verde Carter, and Mya Mildren Wirne Salt Lake City and Mie Elda Jepsen Bore Lave a whabier, OTR Agretin Halle Livi, Salt Lakes Cy ined LE erthnie abileteete.
Citizens praise Pleasant Grove Main Street for extended Christmas decorations. The display extends south another block with colorful lights, and festive lighting outlines around City Hall. The Junior Chamber of Commerce is congratulated for the project and overall Christmas program.
Ye Viking Crier plans a large Christmas edition for Pleasant Grove High on December 22. Journalism class aims for a polished issue with yearbook quality formatting and engaging features. Also notes Lloyd DaVaine accordion program and upcoming school assemblies led by Betty Page under LaVaux. Senior boy joins Navy and another moves to Salt Lake City for continued studies.
The Pleasant Grove High School junior class sponsors the annual Prom titled The Emperse Waltz to be held December 23 in the high school gym. Admission is $1.50 per couple with Wes Barry's Orchestra. Prom committee members listed include Patsy Anderson, decoration chairmarr Galan Acksmith, advertising Charlene Hall, Claire Chabrian Jardine Thyenn, plans to Arden Tauder and James Heirehall.
The annual Cantata The Birth of Christ will be presented Sunday evening December 19 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Ira B. Wilson wrote the piece and Irwin Juwsen conducts. Members of the choir and orchestra perform numbered selections including How Beautiful Upon the Mountain and The Birthday of a King.
Cadmus Club members and guests gathered at Margaret Hayes home for an evening of programs by Beth Shovll Ina Page and Mrs Shopl. Topics covered included Home for a Happy Childhood Child Training and the first six years of a child’s life for development. Discussion followed on parenting and delinquency with festive Christmas decorations and light refreshments provided by the hostess. The group planned a new senior high school project titled The Vies Were Aly Paved for this Gortist.

Pleasant Grove residents voted against a sewer ordinance and bond issues at last Saturday’s election. District 2 north of Center street showed 80 For and 2 Against on the ordinance while bonds failed strongly. District 3 south of Center street posted mixed results and higher opposition. Overall 599 votes were cast with 882 Against the sewer and 207 For the ordinance.
Mrs Lydia Henson Mathews died Wednesday forenoon at her home after a years long illness. Born November 27 1877 in Franklin Idaho she moved to Lehi as a girl and later married Daniel H Mathews April 7 1903. Survived by three sons four daughters two grandchildren and eleven other grandchildren. funeral services pending.

The First ward and Grove ward MIA join for a Christmas party next Tuesday evening December 21 at the First ward recreation hall. Activity counselors with ward officers and teachers oversee decorations refreshments and dancing for all ward members.
