Korn Festival Opens With Two Grand Parades
Two large daytime and weekend parades in Plattsmouth showcased civic effort. The afternoon Pet Parade led by Dr. G L Taylor featured hundreds of colorful costumes and decorated vehicles, with high school bands and Avoca band providing music. The evening Kangaroo Court Parade drew about 5,000 spectators, marching prisoners and festival figures, including Butterflies Early Americans and a shot gun wedding, ending with a mass gathering at the American Legion hall.

Judge Begley Marks Twentieth Year on Bench
James T. Begley, judge of the second judicial district, will observe the twentieth anniversary on the district bench next month. Appointed in 1913 to succeed the late Harvey D. State Club Leader Frisbie reports Nebraska youth earned top prizes at the Sioux City 4-H baby beef event with 300 entries. Lloyd Peters of Dakota county led the senior Hereford steer class and took reserve, while DeForest Roggenbauch Wayne 2nd Hay Peters Dakota 5th Vernon Hixson Antelope 9th. Clifford Ambrose Pierce placed 6th in senior Shorthorn, Ralph Knudson Dakota 3rd in senior Angus, and Don Lutt Wayne 8th.

Farm Home Destroyed Near Rock Bluffs in Fire
A fire last evening destroyed the J. E. Scott family residence near the former Mark White farm south of Rock Bluffs. Neighbors spotted the blaze but could not save the building or belongings. The Scotts were away at a Korn festival when the fire was reported via telephone at 5th and Main streets.

All Stars Triumph In Hard Fought 7-5 Victory
The All Stars defeated the Cocoa Cola kittenball team of Nebraska City 7 to 5. Knoflicek pitched seven hits allowed. Kessner yielded twelve. Both teams traded two runs in the first, with a back and forth until the eighth when the All Stars pushed three runs to seize the lead. The visitors added one in the seventh and none in the ninth.

Judge A H Duxbury presided while the Mynard Community orchestra and Rock Bluffs group performed favorite melodies and readings by Janet Westover and Virginia Trively plus greetings from absent alumni.

Death of Mrs J C Ellington at Plattsmouth
Mrs. J C Ellington 667 died Thursday afternoon after a long illness. Born Anna Seybert in Monterey Virginia June 21 1866 she moved to Nebraska as a child. She married Joseph C Ellington in 1888 and was survived by Bertha Roy and Mrs George Gade with funeral services set for Saturday at 4 30 at Sattler funeral home before interment in Bloomfield.

First Workers Start on River Improvement Work
