The St Pauls Evangelical Church choir gave a concert last evening with soloists and Miss Leone Meisinger as accompanist. Margaret Engelkemeier directed the program featuring hymns by Shanker Wilson Brahms Nolte and others, with a large audience in attendance.
Mrs. John Knorr died shortly before noon after a long illness in Hastings. She was 78 and a pioneer resident of Adams County. Survived by husband aged 85, three sons R. W. Knorr of this city, Bert Knorr of Alliance, Floyd Knorr of Hastings, and daughter Mrs. George McCoy of Hastings. Funeral in Hastings. R. W. Knorr to travel there Tuesday morning.
The many friends of T. E. Todd, a well known city resident, report his improvement after a course of treatment at Clarkson hospital in Omaha for high blood pressure and tonsil removal. He is home recuperating in fine shape and hopes for permanent relief to resume his usual activities.
Mrs. Roy Perkins and Mrs. L. J. Feller of Omaha visited Saturday to attend the funeral of the little grandson of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Patton. They returned home to Omaha Saturday evening.
Miss Leona Hudson daughter of Mr and Mrs GO C Hudson sang as a soloist on a Peru State Teachers College program broadcast from station KFAB in Lincoln. The program was praised and she has been hampered by an injured shoulder affecting her studies recently.
A Plattsmouth letter from Mrs. Thomas Walling describes residents in Los Angeles and Long Beach as tremors shook homes. She notes shaken rooms, cracked chimney, damaged store, and blocked communication with Long Beach, with family seeking safety after repeated shocks.
A Friday evening gathering at the Meisingers farm surprised the couple with friends attending for cards visits and a luncheon. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Allie Leonard Forest Leonard Guy Kiser Dan Hoschar E G Ruffner Carl Meisinger James Tigner Joe Baker Ella Troop Everett Ellis Med Balthazar Otto Pitz and others.
Sheriff Homer Sylvester assisted Deputy Gates in quelling a camp of gypsies at Naeve's park in La Platte. The group, exiled earlier, faced residents' complaints and a fortune telling scam cost one man 1500 dollars when a poke hidden in underwear yielded only a comic paper.
Mrs. E. H. Wescott state regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution travels with Mrs. L. O. Minor and Mrs. Frank R. Gobelman to Nehawka and Hastings for the state DAR conference opening Tuesday. She retires after a two year term having expanded chapters statewide and will serve as a Nebraska representative at the Continental congress in Washington in April.
Last evening an attempted poultry robbery at Mrs. Glenn Perry’s farm south of town failed after a watchdog barked and alarms sounded. Deputies Sylvester and Lancaster investigated. a sack with seven chickens was found and empty sacks suggested an intended mass theft.
Miss Alice Peterson of Sedalia Missouri has helped her sister Mrs Victor Meisinger move to the Fornoff farm eleven miles west of Plattsmouth. She departs Sunday for Nemaha to visit Mr and Mrs Joe Rhodes former county residents.
A seven pound daughter named Mary Margaret was born Saturday afternoon to Principal and Mrs. Robert Foster Patterson. Mother and baby are healthy and the newborn gives son Sammie a playmate for his childhood days.
Edward Mullen son of Mr and Mrs Frank Mullen of Plattsmouth Nebraska was in a Los Angeles restaurant during the major quake last Friday night He and others fled to the street as buildings shook and heavy property damage occurred Police blocked access to Love Beach and efforts focused on aiding injured and frightened residents Mullen escaped injury and later learned phone service was disrupted delaying word to his parents from the city.
County Treasurer John BE Turner and family members traveled to Elmwood Sunday for a Turner family reunion at Norval Bothwell’s home. Guests included Mrs Mathilde Turner and her sons O S Turner and J L Turner. The group shared a fine dinner and fellowship with relatives from Marquette Nebraska and local hosts.
A Plattsmouth party visited Lincoln on Sunday, sharing a day with friends. The group included Mrs. H. C. Sherwood, Hallie B. Perry and family, and Grace and Jesse Perry, who met Mrs. Mart Flansburgh, George M. Porter, Jennie Critchfield, C. H. Vanpeten, Bertha VanMeter, and Jennie Nielsem and their families.
Banks in Plattsmouth resumed full operations at 5 a.m. after a state banking department telegram granted authority to the Plattsmouth State Bank and Farmers State Bank. The Plattsmouth bank opened without restriction, while Farmers State Bank offered to process old accounts under a 8 percent plan before handling new business.
Joseph F. Hadraba and family heard from son Robert in Santa Ana California where he escaped injury in the Friday quake. He noted heavy damage in Santa Ana but less than in Los Angeles and Long Beach. He mentioned a large Long Beach auto sales and repair firm badly damaged and wrecked by the tremors.
County Attorney W G Kieck departed Tuesday for Lincoln to enter the U S Veterans' hospital for treatment and an operation. He will have his tonsils removed and friends hope the surgery will aid his recovery and allow him to return home soon.
Sheriff Homer Sylvester and County Treasurer John E. Turner announce a one month moratorium on auto licenses to allow owners to obtain the new lower license fees. After the period passes, all vehicles must be licensed or not operate. Refunds for overpaid fees will be announced when available.
Two Plattsmouth youths Helen Dew and Robert Hart were married Saturday in Nebraska City at the Bethel Evangelical church parsonage. Rev. George Duensing performed the ceremony before relatives and friends learned of the happy event. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Dew, grew up in Plattsmouth. The groom, son of Mr and Mrs William S Hart, has resided here recently and works at the Nebraska Basket factory.
Last evening the Westminster Guild gathered at Mrs H G McClusky home. Miss Wilhelmina Henrichsen led devotions and the Mexico lesson, followed by a business session planning March 28 initiation of new members and a Lincoln rally March 26 with delegates if possible.
The St. Marys Guild gathered Tuesday at Mrs. R F Patterson s home with many members present. Canon W J H Potter gave a talk on Revelations and its relevance to current conditions. Miss Barbara Gering presided, and a buffet luncheon was served by Mrs. A E Stewart with coffee and tea provided by Mrs. Petter.
Local world war veteran W. O. Reeves departed this afternoon for the Battle Mountain sanitarium at Hot Springs South Dakota. Reeves has been in very serious condition for the past year and his disability from his war service necessitates hospital treatment.
Plattsmouth Nebraska city council backs a resolution sponsored by Mayor John P. Sattler to suspend principal payments on city bonds for two years while continuing interest payments. The plan aims to ease tax burdens amid slow collections and upcoming real estate revaluation, with bondholders contacted for extended payment terms.
Plattsmouth high school basketball departs for Falls City for the Southeast Nebraska regional meet with defending champion status and co favorites with Falls City. Opening round Friday pits Plattsmouth against Stella as Avoca challenges Shubert for Class B honors, with limited local attendance expected.
