Plattsmouth's Albert F. Reinackle, born March 9 1860, is celebrated on his seventy ninth birthday. A son of late August and Mrs. Reinackle, pioneer residents, he remains active despite advanced years and recalls the city’s early frontier days along the Missouri river when freighting to the west began here.
The family expresses gratitude for kindness shown during their sorrow over the death of their beloved parents. Thanks are extended to Reverend Louis Kvetensky of Omaha for comforting words, pallbearers, friends, and neighbors. Special appreciation to Mrs Louis Kretensky and her daughter for the hymns at the services. Signed by Mr. and Mrs. Tullard Wales and sons Irvin Dean James and Charles Kozak.
The Murray Christian church ladies sponsor a pie supper and bake sale at the church parlors on Friday evening March 17 with a program and special music. The public is invited to attend.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce met in the Cass County courthouse to discuss a Public Rest Room project for Plattsmouth. Clifford L. McKellips urged citywide funding and federal backing for sanitation, with a follow up meeting set for March 23 to dive into the financial details.
Mrs. L. O. Minor visits Kankakee Illinois to join her husband who is newly named manager of the water plant. They seek a home and plan to move soon with goods shipped once ready. Their son Carter Minor remains in local high school to finish the year. Mr Minor expects to return next week to arrange moving. He praises Kankakee as a busy attractive city of about 29 000 with many plants.
The Warren family expresses deep gratitude for the expressions of sympathy received during the illness and death of their husband and father. They especially thank those who attended the funeral services and sent flowers. Mrs. Frank E. Warren and Family.
Sheriff and Mrs Joe Mrasek left this morning to Geneva Nebraska with Clara Baker who has been placed in the state school at that location.
Mrs. Joseph M. Sedlak, ill for several days at her south city home, is reported somewhat better though still unable to manage her usual activities.
A Mrs. Hull found an unusually large egg from the hen house containing a second perfect eye inside the shell. The bizarre discovery drew much attention from onlookers who examined the unusual embryo eye within the large egg.
Cass county faces cash flow crisis as the general fund is exhausted and 85 percent of the levy spent. Warrants will not be issued until cash is on hand. The poor relief fund is overdrawn and paid only as cash accumulates. No warrants registered without orders, and relief claims await funds.
Plattsmouth fire department members honored Chief C. Sandin on his 56th birthday and 26th year of service with a luncheon and remembrance. Sandin began as a fireman in 1913, became chief in 1917, serving 21 years as head, and faced numerous severe fires while at the front of the department.
Mr and Mrs William Rummel host Mrs William Falter sister of Mrs Rummel and Mrs Minnie Walters cousin from Huron South Dakota They arrived in Plattsmouth Wednesday to spend several days visiting friends and relatives in the area.
Mrs. John Jordan underwent a serious operation Friday at St. Catherine's hospital after being admitted days earlier. Her health had been failing for some time and the operation aimed to relieve her illness. Friends here wish her a speedy recovery.
The original closing date of March 21, 1939 for completion of loans on 1938 corn will not be extended. It is urged that all eligible applicants have requested loans completed prior to the final date.
Nebraska press association compiles Cass county profiles for a statewide Who’s Who in Nebraska. Field reps gather data from civic leaders as newspapers aid research for a several hundred page volume without advertising. The project coincides with the association’s 50th anniversary.
Louis W. Lorenz prominent local businessman returned Tuesday from St. Joseph hospital where he was treated and observed. He had not been in good health for months and required immediate hospitalization for a period.
Dr. and Mrs. W. V. Ryan, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Webb, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Tritsch motored to Lincoln last evening to witness the state basketball tournament. Creighton Prep faced Falls City, Jackson played South High, and Oakdale met Hardy.
William Oliver Sr and family thank friends and neighbors for kindness during illness and at the time of death of their beloved wife and mother. Appreciation for support expressed beyond words.
Ordell Hennings, manager of the Hinky-Dinky grocery store, was in Omaha last evening for the board of directors meeting of the American Stores Benefit association. He has served on the board for the past year.
The Nebraska supreme court sustained a divorce decree granted by District Judge Rhodes in Omaha. George Hild, formerly of the city, and wife Marie separated after 11 months amid cruelty claims. Hild won the divorce in district court and alimony was sought by Marie in a separate suit.
The P. E. O. chapter held its annual election at Mrs. Cummins home on Pearl Street. Officers chosen for the year include President Mrs. P. T. Heineman and Vice President Mrs. Clement Wester with other posts filled by Mrs. Roy C. Cole Mrs. Elbert Wiles Mrs. H. F. Goos Mrs. William Baird Mrs. R. W. Knorr and Mrs. L. S. Devoe. Delegates to the Norfolk state convention were named as Mrs. Heineman and Mrs. Devoe with alternates Miss Estelle Baird and Mrs. Wester.
Tarkio college history professor Robert Foster Patterson attended the past master's banquet of Plattsmouth lodge No. 6 A. F. and A. M. He studies Senator Gilbert Hitchcock's life, focusing on Hitchcock’s World War era foreign relations leadership and peace treaty debates with Norris Borah Ashhurst Harrison.
Thursday evening at St Joseph hospital a baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Elmer Stoehr of near the city The mother and child are progressing well and the event marks the first child in the family Mrs Stoehr was formerly Miss Laura Peterson daughter of Mr and Mrs Anton Peterson of Sedalia Missouri
Miss Patricia Cloidt, student nurse at St. Joseph hospital in Omaha, spent several hours in the city today with her father A. W. Cloidt brother Bill and other relatives and old friends.
Mrs Emil Havelka of Wahoo is visiting in the city to see her father Edward Donat Sr and his family along with other relatives and old time friends.
John F. Hirz a 78 year old resident of the city died Sunday morning at his Marble street home after a ten day illness from a stroke. Born in Wessen Darmstadt Germany he came to the United States in 1880 settling in Plattsmouth. He married Nettle Holschue in 1888 and later lived on a farm west of town before moving to the city. Survived by wife a son Fred Hirz and daughter Lena Becker and several grandchildren one brother Phillip of Rapid City D. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 00 pm from the Sattler funeral home at Fourth and Vine streets.
Warming weather released water from the Missouri River causing the river to rise and flood lowlands while the Platte River ran high pushing floodwaters east of the city. Backflow filled old chutes and fields as water covered the Pollock farm south of the pumping station. With ice release the waters began receding and a drop of more than a foot was recorded by Sunday.
Miss Phyllis Robbins, a beauty culture student from Omaha, is on a short vacation to visit her parents Mr and Mrs Frank Robbins. She has spent the past month in Omaha pursuing her beauty course during her stay.
Miss Ida Mae Whisin spent several days in Plattemouth as a house guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kauorr and family before departing for Hastings this morning.
Mrs. Phillip Hofmann and her children Phyllis and Bobby traveled to Lincoln on Wednesday to visit Mrs. Hofmann's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Dresselhaus.
