Filteration Plant Construction to Remove Manganese
Plattsmouth Water Corporation advances a new filter plant east of the existing iron removal unit to remove manganese from the water. The 20 by 24 foot concrete tank, 15 feet deep, will have 14 inch reinforced walls and a 4000 pound concrete mix, with brick superstructure and two rooms for aeration and lime handling. The system uses aerators, coke trays, lime dosing, and a three hour retention to precipitate iron and manganese before sand beds. The plant, costing about 10000 dollars, aims to improve water quality for Norfolk Packing and other users while supporting Plattsmouth merchants. Richard L. King of Humboldt is the construction engineer, with eight workers on site.

Charles Slattery 79 Dies at Nebraska Masonic Home
Charles Slattery, 79, longtime Lincoln and Omaha blacksmith and horseshoer, died Wednesday at the Nebraska Masonic Home where he had resided since 1934. Born April 1858 in Geneva New York he lived most of his later life in Nebraska and is survived by two sons Bert of Alliance and Henry of Omaha. He joined Lincoln lodge No 19 before entering the home on December 17, 1934.

Louisville Woman Dies in Grand Island Hospital Visit
Mrs. John Fleischman aged 32 of Louisville died at Grand Island Wednesday after tumor surgery. Her husband John Fleischman is recovering in hospital. She was born in Virginia, moved here with her parents Henry and (Mrs.) Taylor, married January 21, 1903, had seven children, and was active in the Christian church and W C T U. Survived by father Henry Taylor, four daughters, two sons, four brothers and three sisters. one son Raymond preceded her in death.

Toll takers enjoy days off as the Louisville bridge over the Platte river closes to traffic for a pumping project to replace a washed out grade. Work runs day and night to lay a sand grade with clay surfacing before reopening to cautious traffic. Detours direct motorists to Plattsmouth and Ashland bridges.

The body of Grover Bledge 43 missing since Friday night was found Sunday morning by fishermen in the first channel near his river home east of the city. He was seen near a Burlington subway after leaving a local tavern. He likely drowned after being swept from the flooded road to his farm. Trucker Audience Receives New Nebraska Law Details
Truckers met Friday at the district court room to hear the Nebraska Motor Carriers Act explained. Frank Petereit Dies in Flood Waters
