Old Age Insurance Accounts Being Posted
Wages of millions of workers in the social security program are being posted at about 650000 entries daily for late May. The largest day was 1221 entries totaling 33. The postings stem from 1987 wage reports used at six month ends, with about 75000000 items received and around 4 percent posted to individual accounts. Under new rules effective January 1 1928 employers file quarterly tax returns listing wages paid. 2100000 items were received for the first quarter of 1238. A short gap between pay day and posting will not delay benefit claims. Cash payments are now issued to workers aged 65 and to heirs of deceased workers.
