Compensation Rule Cuts Veterans Pensions Across Nebraska
Nebraska veterans face drastic cuts under new compensation rules. About 2,804 World War I veterans in the state received 1.45 million dollars in 1932 under old disability pay, with 15 percent under service-connected presumption likely to be cut off. Nonservice connected cases totaling 867,168 dollars for 4,176 veterans would be wiped out except for total disability, estimated at one in 40. Over 6,000 Spanish American veterans earned more than 3 million dollars under prior laws. roughly half may lose part or all of pensions. Some beneficiaries under special congressional acts appear unaffected. Nationwide, 14,522 people with pensions totaling 6,358,672 dollars yearly are covered by such acts.
