One week from next Friday marks the start of the State Tourna ment of the T. J. Sokals in Phitts mouth. The event lasts three days and draws societies from across Nebraska. Local businesses are urged to decorate to honor the visitors, with many city merchants expected to participate.
Omaha leaders Mr T R Huston and Mr Charles Remner arrange the Independent Order of Foresters annual outing to Patterson's pond near Plattsmouth on Sunday June 22. Event includes music by the Forester's Union Band bicycle races tug of war Iowa vs Nebraska Foresters and various amusements with emphasis on safety and good order.
At about 4 PM a coal laden car toppled into the track in the big cut near the bridge, forcing an east bound freight to stop suddenly. Brakeman E F Wright was thrown and cut his chin, injuring his right ankle. he was watching for jumping youths when the accident happened. Trains were delayed about two hours while the obstruction was cleared and Wright returned home to Lincoln to recover.

Frederick Gobs a longtime Plattsmouth resident and German LutherAn church member died at his North Eight street home Sunday around 3 p.m. Heart disease shortened his life after months of poor health. Born in Onslag Germany he came to Plattsmouth about 32 years ago. He owned the Goos House on Main street for 16 years and later worked in various businesses. He leaves a wife and four grown children Mrs EL J Heitzhausen Mrs Ware Schnidtuoan Mrs Joseph Fetzer and Tlenry ooos. Funeral was held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the German Lutheran Church with Rev Freund and interment at Oak Hill cemetery.
The Sterling Semi-Weekly Sun calls ex changes from a week to week office a needless burden. It praises better class journals while noting many small papers merely exist as a thorn to the public, with some readers supporting them only as a matter of time before decline.
Lincol n Neb June 9 1901 Charles Dr France chairman of the Western Passenger Association reports that railroads under his jurisdiction authorize a one fare round trip to Grand Island for Nebraska populist and democratic state conventions. Excursion tickets sell June 23 24 valid return through June 27 1862. No receipt required. Publish the fact and verify bulletins by June 19 or 20.
