The Journal reprints the city law prohibiting throwing glass crockery nails or sharp objects on public roads streets alleys or sidewalks. Violators face a misdemeanor fine from 5 to 100 dollars and the chief of police should identify and arrest culprits, especially those who break bottles without provocation.
The funeral for Ivy L. Speis was held at 4 PM yesterday at St John’s Catholic Church conducted by Jesuit Father Conners from Omaha in the absence of the pastor. Members of the community filled the church as Opal Fitzgerald and Helen Cline provided musical tributes and the priest offered comfort. interment followed at the Moly Sepulcher cemetery with cousins Ed Albert Will Lovie Henry and Carl Egenberger serving as pallbearers.

B Grovenor Dovey acted as official scorer.
Engineer Bob Gibson spends his time off clearing weeds and underbrush from the half block around Young and Hayes addition. A former small farm area is now transformed and barely recognizable.
Mr W F Rosencrans and family traveled to Elmwood yesterday morning excepting his son Clayte. They visited Mr Frank Baker and saw Mr and Mrs Raker's ten pound baby girl born last Tuesday. W B E chauffeured the trip covering thirty seven miles via Louisville in one hour thirty five minutes, beating last week’s time as roads were good but the heat was strong yet the car eased the heat.
Nehawka report dated June 8 states station agent J. B. Banning lost 82,000 dollars in a package burned after a waste basket was emptied. The bills were to be delivered to the Nehawka bank and cannot be reimbursed due to insufficient identifiable remainder.
Mr Wescott reports the Grand Island convention as the largest and most important in Nebraska to date. Plattsmouth earned state office as recording secretary. A five block parade of Sunday school workers led by the Grand Island Garnet band highlighted the closing events. Delegates from this county included A M Holmes Mrs James Loughridge and Minnie Meinier of Murray.
J. G. Peterson arrived in town with a huge strawberry order claiming the crop is exceptionally abundant. Farmers report strong demand, limited by supply, and note the fruit is among the finest seen this season.
Rd Slocum Theodore and Karl Amick of near Murray rode the fast mail to Omaha this afternoon to view the auto races.
M W Thomas and Fred Ghigg went to Omaha on pretext. Clagg offered to buy tickets. Thomas returned with both sets but wrong change. Clagg promised to buy on return and teased to shake him. Thomas searched for Clagg. Ghigg waited at stores but Thomas did not reappear. Both men claim honesty and only had ale.
The Ladies' society of the Swedish Mission church gathered at Mrs. A. Peistrup's home for a charming afternoon. Despite intense heat a large number attended, sharing needlework conversation and amusements. A dainty luncheon was provided, and no business sessions were held, focusing on social time.
Members of the Ladies Aid society of the M B K church met at Mrs M A Buttery's home in the north part of the city. Heavy heat and Miss Spies funeral reduced attendance. No business session. the afternoon was spent socializing with refreshments. Mrs Butter praised as a splendid entertainer.
William Tolly reports Mr Hicks predicts a heated term with daily thunder storms for four days starting June 7 near us. Hicks may have overlooked the fact that the moon changes next Sunday.
From Fremont Messrs J M Levda and T M Patterson returned today after representing the Plattsmouth Loan and Building Association at the Nebraska State League of Loan and Building Associations convening yesterday. A strong turnout, a program and a banquet highlighted the event with important business affecting the home building institution discussed. The meeting was reported as excellent and both delegates were pleased with its work.
A 1861 Plattsmouth drill and rally recounts Dr. Livingston forming a volunteer company to oppose secession. By June 9 a silk flag was presented on Winterstein Hill, and on June 10 they marched to Omaha. June 11 the unit was mustered in, making Livingston the regiment's first captain and later colonel within a year.
Jacob Meisinger returned Wednesday from a visit to Pekin and his old homestead six miles away. He noted changes since thirty years ago but enjoyed revisiting boyhood scenes and reported Illinois crops in fine shape and locals engaged with Chelelat. The remaining party plans to return next week.
In district court Victor H. DeBoll sought 850,000 against Gasper L. McBrien former state superintendent and head of the university extension bureau. A ten hour jury deliberation resulted in a $1,000 award to DeBoll for libel alleging McBrien used efforts to block his county superintendent bid in Cass county.
Mr John Bock and Miss Tema Peters from near Weeping Water arrived in the city last evening and visited Mrs William Hunter Sok overnight. They depart this afternoon for Newcastle Wyoming where Buck will visit his son Julius Buck for three months. Mrs Hunter accompanied them to Omaha and will visit her sister Moe Fred Hild at the hospital this afternoon.

Edward Clark, formerly of Plattsmouth and Auburn, died in Cultura California after contact with a live wire while at work. He was the son of W. M. Clark, longtime local barber, and had lately resided west after previous work in his father’s shop. Friends and family extend sympathy to the bereaved.
Louis Hansen, a prosperous farmer from near Tilden, arrived in the city in the evening and spent the night with his uncle J. C. Peterson before returning home in the morning.
