From the Fremont Herald a plea to Plattsmouth parents to curb their daughters late at night. The piece argues that homes fail to guide 15 or 16 year olds and suggests YWCA involvement to provide constructive activities. Parents must act or bear responsibility for their daughters downfall.
In a hotly contested afternoon clash the Red Sox beat Glenwood 7 to 3. New practice lapses showed as four Red Sox runs came the first time at bat while Bardwell and Mann shared catching duties. Ground conditions hindered plays as weeds covered the field outside the diamond.
County Commissioners L D Sweitzer and RA Jordan met with M L Freidetich in a regular session. A large Manley delegation appeared over a saloon license matter. A remonstrance with over 100 local names arrived by mail. The vote on granting the license ended three to zero against.
Messrs William Sheeran Ba Mpeeney A Lau and J W Jone of near Marley visited the county seat today to attend to business matters.
Grant Ball 13 son of Elmer Ball of Louisville faced a court hearing on theft of $12 from H. E. Pankonine and growing up in mendicancy. Judge Beeson ordered commitment to the industrial school for boys at Kearney.
Tuesday’s Daily reports Fred Denson a Burlington switchman had a valuable colt injured by a bull low chasing a dog that played with the colt. The animal was bit and flesh severely gashed as the family were away.
Miss Ivy Louise Spies died at 10 25 this morning after years of illness. Born March 27 1883 in Plattsmouth she was the eldest daughter of Herman and Mrs Spies and a Plattsmouth High School alumna who later worked as a stenographer for the Burlington Railway. She is survived by her parents three brothers and three sisters and several aunts and uncles. Funeral arrangements will be announced tomorrow.
Funeral services for Kate Lewis Anderson were held at the late residence on South Eighth Street. Rev. L. W. Gade officiated with hymns sung by a quartet. Pallbearers included John Dalatram and Charles Ryburg among others. services were under the 1. C. C. F. and attended by A. C. 1. W. with many friends paying last respects.
The AO U W met to plan the annual memorial decoration for next Sunday. Mr Neuman was elected chairman of the decoration committee and the group will attend the Memorial Burial service in a body. The graves of deceased members will be decorated before the church service.
Mise Elizabeth Falter left this afternoon for Penn to attend the summer session. She will take a position on the Tilden High School faculty in Nebraska for the coming school year.
The K N K will host a strawberry and ice cream social Saturday evening in June at the Kenosha Christian Church. Everyone is invited to join friends and neighbors for a pleasant social time and enjoy strawberries and ice cream.
Harry Polsall charged with being drunk assaulting Chief Rainey and resisting an officer in a July disturbance was arrested by Sheriff Quinton and arraigned before Judge Beeson. He pleaded not guilty and bond was set at 8300 with a hearing next Saturday. John Jones and Peter Herold faced similar charges, were convicted on intoxication counts and fined, and jailed on nonpayment.
Mr Louis Spearhouse and Pred Bove of near Berlin were in the city last night Returning home this morning. Spearhouse is father of the youth shot at a Avoca dance and Boze father of John Boze who fired the gun. Settlement efforts are under way with friends interceding. John Boze prelim hearing for shooting with intent to kill is set for June 26. If settled Spearhouse sr will not prosecute. The bullet remains in Spearhouse’s head and his heart action is weak, hindering operation.
The social meeting of the Woman's Relief Corps held at Mrs Loretta Aulls home yesterday afternoon drew large attendance. No business was conducted. the hour was devoted to social time with amusements and a luncheon that received many compliments. All reported a fine time.
M. Seybert of Louisville is announced as a candidate for commissioner from the First district subject to the will of Democratic voters at the August primary.
George McDaniel the Leouinville blacksmith arrived in Plattsmouth today by No. 4 road after business at the county seat.
A porch party at Mrs. Dr. G. A. Marshalls honored Laura Elizabeth Eaton on her third birthday. Guests from Omaha and Murray joined a pink and green themed afternoon with peanut hunts, a cake with three candles, photos, and games led by Laura and her mother.
The Buffalo Bill Jr. show pitched a night performance on Seventh and Vine in Plattsmouth. A fair band played across city sections, the play drew a smaller crowd than hoped, but critics praised the acting and production as top tier for western theater. The troupe was courteous and professional, promising stronger attendance if they return.
Mr Henry Born, accompanied by Dr BE D Cummins, traveled to Omaha this afternoon to St Josephs hospital for an appendectomy planned for tomorrow morning. He had suffered several weeks with a second bout of appendicitis and chose to remove the appendix.
The Lohnes home near Cedar Creek hosted a Sunday celebration for Mr and Mrs John Lohnes and Mr Nd Lohnes as they marked their golden wedding anniversary. Rev Spreigel officiated a mock wedding with Mr and Mrs John Lotnes. many gifts and refreshments followed. Attendees included James Tortyberry family James Lohnes John Lohnes Jake Lohnes George Lohnes Henry Ragnoss Will Tebnes Ed Lohnes Henry Abt Julius Ragosa Adam Kaffenberger Adam Pornoffer George Meisinger Henry Horn and families plus Miss Anna Kopla Lulu Heil Luella Kaffenberger Mabel Kaffenberger and others.
Prom Wednesday's Daily reports residents complain about overgrown weeds on West Pearl Street properties. Owners reside within 100 miles, but neglect leads to untidy blocks, disease concerns, and declining surrounding property values. An unnamed neighbor urges owners to readier weed removal.
From Wednesday's Daily H G McMahen and Son today began grading the parkway on Vine street between Fourth and Fifth streets and deposit dirt on lots south of Wescott's Sons store. Grading will improve the appearance of abutting properties as old landmarks in the maples ring are removed and walks laid at the lot line.
