Visit Here Decoration Day Guests from Lincoln

Memorial Day observers from Lincoln included Mr and Mrs Harry Royal Mr and Mrs Harry Graves and Mr and Mrs Mike Derneg. They stopped to visit Judge C L Graves then moved on to Rock Bluffs and Union to honor Graves family graves before returning home in the evening.

Lincoln Nelsons Visit Oak Hill Cemetery Group of Old Friends

Mr and Mrs John Nelson Sr and daughters Florence and Margaret of Lincoln with Mr and Mrs Roy Perkins of Omaha visited to oversee decoration of the family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery and stayed over Sunday to reconnect with longtime friends.

Memorial Day Visitors Attend Cemetery Decorations

Among the Memorial Day visitors were longtime community residents who decorated graves in the local cemetery. The group included Mrs. Arthur Chrisman Mrs. Bert Chrisman Mr and Mrs James Kinkead and Mr and Mrs Walter Cummings now residents of Omaha. Arthur Chrisman a Burlington trainman was chosen as conductor on the new Zephyr between Chicago and Denver.

Pioneers’ Young Cemetery Preservation Meeting Held

More than 200 descendants gathered Sunday at the Young farm near Murray to form an association preserving the Young cemetery. Rex Young welcomed attendees, and remarks highlighted pioneer history. Officials re elected to the board and officers including George Hall as president and Mrs. Clara Young White as secretary treasurer.

Memorial Day Service Honors Fallen Community Soldiers

Memorial Day events at the American Legion building included high school band numbers led by Fred Herbster and an address by Captain Charles D. Simonds of Fort Crook. Veterans from the VFW and G A R honored the dead with roll calls, readings, and the firing squad from Fort Crook.

Davis Duo Called to Lincoln Amid Illness

Mr and Mrs J Howard Davis departed for Lincoln Sunday to be with Mrs Parker mother of Mrs Davis after a sudden appendicitis attack required urgent hospital care. Mrs Davis remains in Lincoln with her mother through the emergency.

The H. L. Taplett family moved from the city to Sioux Falls SD where they will reside permanently. Vernon Taplett, from the 1936 high school class, may complete his schooling there as he has spent his years in the local school. Mr Taplett oversees major beverage handling interests with headquarters in Sioux Falls, making the move convenient for the family.

A large gathering at North 8th Street marked the sendoff for Carl Brewer of Calloway Nebraska who sails June 4 from New York to visit his mother and sister in Germany. Funeral of David Lancaster Held at Murray

The funeral for David Lancaster was held Tuesday afternoon at the Murray Christian church with Rev. C Loyd Shubert delivering comfort. A mixed quartet performed two requested numbers and the body was laid to rest at Mt Pleasant cemetery north of NEhawka with pallbearers Alvin Meisinger Ivan Deles Dernier John J Stones Albert Scudder Curris Farris and James Hoschar. The Sattler funeral home of Murray managed arrangements.

Fines for two intoxicated men over pike in car

Late Monday two strangers seen near 5th and Main under liquor were detained by police. They possessed wall-eyed pike and a jag, were jailed overnight, arraigned before Judge Graves, pled guilty, fined $10 and costs each, with thirty day suspended sentence on settlement. Names given as Charles Barker and Fred Gladfelter of Omaha and Fort Crook.

Resigns School Post At High School

Wayne Alvord a popular high school teacher submitted his resignation to the board of education. He and his bride Dorothy Downey are spending their honeymoon in Lincoln. He will take a position in Red Oak Iowa this fall and leave the city and school work behind.

Honored Mason Receives Bronze Jordan Medal

Dr. Howard J. Hill of Plattsmouth lodge No. 6 was awarded the bronze Jordan medal as the lodge's most senior in service. William A. Robertson presented the honor, noting Hill’s long commitment. Hill resides at the Nebraska Masonic Home and belongs to Harlan Lodge No. 115 in Alma Nebraska.
