Burlington Band Delight Draws 800 At High School Grounds

A Friday concert by the Burlington band drew 800 to 1,000 residents to the High school grounds. Director Schulhof led a popular program including As Long as the Shamrock Grows Green and Way Down South. The crowd praised the new amphitheater site and many audience members noted the performance by the band.

Son-in-law Suffered Sunstroke While Hauling Hay

Dan Rice left for Glenwood after a message announced John Brandon, his son-in-law, suffered a sunstroke while hauling hay yesterday. Brandon was driving a wagon when he collapsed on the road in an unconscious condition and is in serious condition.

F. H. Speck, Republican ad man, set a record by typesetting five and a half galleys in nine and a half hours on a hot Monday. About 24 700 single type pieces were handled at roughly 2 285 per hour, a pace well above normal seven to eight hours. Speck, formerly with the Journal, is praised as a first class printer.

Death of Mrs Cornelius Bengen in Cass County

The community mourns Mrs. Cornelius Bengen Jr of Mynard who died after a four day illness.
